The 12th-century Romanesque nave at Ely Cathedral rarely steals the spotlight (thanks to that lantern tower), but it’s absolutely jaw-dropping

An important point that I admit I had not thought of.
will also add - yes, this is my personal crusade - that turning podcasts into videos implicitly asks women to once again make more effort than men, as the bar for "camera-ready" for one gender is obviously higher than for the other
‘Painful to hear!’ How podcasts’ rush to video is turning them into dreadful listens

You should absolutely buy Tom’s inspiring, thought-provoking books. And please buy them from Swift Press.
Quick note to anyone thinking of buying my books: please purchase the new Swift Press versions, NOT the relatively small number of Unbound versions still knocking about, & being sold by OOINYA. Unbound stopped paying me for my work early in 2024 and I will never see a penny for these books.

This is truly terrifying.
This should be the biggest news story in the world right now

So people broke into the Louvre and stole artwork but as long as they sell it into Sam Altman to use in AI learning they should be fine right?

What a phenomenal woman Dr Goodall was.
Earlier this year, Dr. Jane Goodall sat down for an interview for Brad Falchuk’s new Netflix series, Famous Last Words.

The premise of the series is to interview people on the condition that the interview not air until the subject has passed away.

Heartwarming story for your Sunday.
Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

I love how study after study after study shows that simply giving people financial stability and free time with no strings attached leads to better outcomes for *everybody*, and yet society keeps rejecting that solution by saying, "But then how would poor people know to be ashamed of themselves???"
Thousands of workers tried a 4-day week, and their mental and physical health improved.

A study tracked 2,896 workers across 141 organizations for six months.

Reducing the work week by 8 hours led to better physical and mental health, with no loss of productivity.
