Happy solstice - tonight is the longest night.

The light is creeping back in, too slowly to notice it just yet. And maybe, so could the hope.

The name "Popular Science" doesn't mean we shift our coverage depending on public opinion. It means we cover relevant subjects that are rigorously researched, reliable, and grounded in reality.

And trans lives are grounded in reality.

We see y'all. No matter what.

Ninety-four percent of participants in a new study stood firm in their trans identity after five years, and "detransitioning" is rare.

Thank you to the hundreds of campaigners who wrote to MPs this week, urging them to attend Wednesday's debate and highlight the specific dangers to LGBTQI+ people.

And special thanks to both @carladenyer.bsky.social and @kirstysnp.bsky.social for speaking up for LGBTQI+ people in parliament.

British Quakers are refusing room bookings from terfs as policy.
If you were waiting for an org to stand up for LGBTQIA+ rights, and unflinchingly withstand bullying and lawfare, here you go, friends.
Good luck to the raging bigots, they'll get nowhere with threats.

It is a sign of how fundamentally abused and traumatised trans communities are in the UK that many folks are responding to Levy with relief and cautious welcome.

It could have been a lot worse.

But it fundamentally fails to deliver meaningful improvements to trans healthcare. 1/4

You are going to kill even more trans people Wes, this is actually dangerous. HRT changes your biology, if you deny trans people appropriate screening and refuse to take account of the actual biological changes to their bodies, you will kill someone

Imagine if the NHS just said to GPs, you have our permission to prescribe HRT to trans people. GICs are there for complex cases and advice, but you're free to do it. If stuff goes wrong, refer to GICs or endos as you do for the cis.

Imagine.

Also pissed off at Steeting going off on "biological sex is immutable for screening and healthcare" in parliament, if ignoring that we very much should be treated according to our current anatomy and hormones, and that treating us as our birth assigned sex will cause serious healthcare failures.
