Oh I thought I was so clever: I made some little potato patties from leftover potato mash, added egg, cheese, flour - they came up very golden and crisp.
To be fancy I put salmon, leftover whipped cream and dill on the ones I gave my mother.
AND THEN REALISED THE LEFTOVER CREAM WAS SWEETENED.

TFW you do a nice thing (set the table, do a nice vase if flowers) and it somehow ends up in an argument with the maternal unit about fucking dessert spoons. I am neurodivergent. I have my cutlery preferences. I do NOT understand how the massive “dessert” spoons can legally be considered as such.

He is an absolute sweetheart. He is genuine, warm, respectful, and clearly adores and makes niece happy.
