NEW: Pentagon lawyers asked State Dept. if US could send survivors of Trump's boat strikes to a notorious prison in El Salvador. Then Pentagon pushed to have survivors sent anywhere but the US — to prevent any US court cases. Gift link to our @nytimes.com story: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/09/u...

it’s pretty funny that Duffy is simultaneously

1. scolding passengers for not wearing fancy clothes while flying

2. supporting airport gyms so passengers can be sweaty and gross while flying

both of these proposals are idiotic but the direct contradiction is next level
Duffy on what he's doing to improve the airport experience for travelers: "Maybe I want a workout area where people might get some blood flowing doing some pull ups or step ups in the airport."

At base, the issue with Humphrey's Executor is the same issue as with impoundment: Is the federal government required to follow federal law, as described in the Federalist Papers and in Article 2's take care clause? Or is the entire federal lawmaking process merely advisory?

One of the most dramatically underreported aspects of Trump 2.0 is his ultra-corrupt direct interventions in business. Handing companies to his friends, taking chunks of private companies for the sake of doing businesses, granting tariff exemptions as favors. He’s crushing the rules-based economy.

perhaps it has been a mistake to outsource the regulatory state, and in particular civil rights law and worker protections, to lawyers who wont help you unless youre rich or they are so confident in your case that the winnings will pay their fees
I am genuinely losing my mind. The joke is, prima facie, objectively true.

The reason Westport has continued to suck and decline in quality over the last decade is because it is literally in the death grip of racist petite bourgeoisie

Low-trust societies are so expensive, I swear.

To bare my chest, my spouse and I just navigated two years of fighting for IDEA accommodations for our older kiddo whose dyslexia and decoding skills deficits were so pronounced that, in 3rd grade, their reading test scores were <1st percentile.
This is what frustrates me so much about these articles: Propagating the narrative that large numbers of kids are faking disabilities is just going to result in a world where disabled people are *even more* scrutinized when they ask for accommodations!
My kids go to a "rich" public school. My daughter is 7 and cannot read; she is a sweet, caring, intelligent child, but if you spend a moment with her it is clear that she has ADHD an order of magnitude more serious than what you think of when you hear "ADHD." Anybody questioning her IEP can fuck off

I think present-day politics makes a lot more sense if we acknowledge that constant interactions on social media can rapidly evolve someone’s perception of reality and their political beliefs, as they try to conform with the vast, unregulated, malformed parasocial mob

He’s literally just some guy, that’s the whole point of having a president and not a king. You can tell him to get bent and all he can do is sputter.
I can’t believe people in the room don’t push back. It doesn’t matter if he’s the president, part of holding him accountable is standing up to his bullying— especially if he’s doing it right in front of your face

It's kind of funny because Will stancil is normally a big believer in the idea that ideas not material conditions shape history and like one of the best examples of this is how 1950s elites were convinced cars were The Future™ and completely destroyed American urbanism with negligible public debate
I mean it's not this simple but a handful of policy elites really did drastically reengineer our urban fabric in ways that were popular in the immediate term and created massive social dysfunction beyond that.
Because a lot of leftists/progressives have pseudo conspiratorial models of reality where they think the only reason Americans live in suburbs is bc GM tore up the streetcar lines in LA etc.
