Fire is great. We couldn't have built civilization without it.

Capitalism is great. We couldn't have built civilization without it.

but free market capitalism isn't the solution to everything, just like we don't light everything on fire just because it burns.

Heaven forbid I get that kind of power, but I wouldn't make a movie.

I'd make two TV series.

1. I would force Guillermo del Toro and Jordan Peele to write, direct, and develop a five-season (12 hour-long episodes per season) adaptation of Macross.

Not Robotech.

Macross.
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

Requiem for Early Blogging
As part of Talking Points Memo’s 25th anniversary, I wrote an essay on early blogging, and what I miss about it. Here it is, in its entirety: Whether I like it or not, the first line of my obituary will probably be that I was the founding editor of Gawker.

There are two of these in my small VT town. It's hilarious/disturbing to see them in the grocery store lot parked next to some RAM F150 Hemi SuperCab behemoth.

"Dogs don't bark at parked cars" is an all-time great line
"My mentor always tells me, 'Kim, dogs don’t bark at parked cars." They’re coming after critical race theory, 1619, intersectionality because these ideas mobilized people. They gave them the language to actually articulate what they were seeing with their own eyes," says Kimberlé Crenshaw.

A question for the other #IndieGame #ttrpgs designers on here:

With regard to promo tags/posts on here, do you mute them ignore them, repost/interact with them, or some other option?

This isn't the Old Place; we have to actively boost and repost each here if we want things to be noticed.

Somehow there's a connection between this and the death of Google Reader. The danger in letting people find and access other people's creations was that there was money being made there but it wasn't being made by Google. They're sure taken care of that.
NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

Help grow the conversation around universal basic income by boosting posts about it and doing your part to be and stay informed. I try to make it easier to do these things. Use my timeline. Use my pinned thread. Use my YT channel. Help get UBI mentioned more often and widely as a key policy demand!
