What's the most ridiculous way you ever hurt yourself? I got out of the tub, skidded in water and tripped over the toilet. Ankle sprain.

This feels like an important science.
Water is The One True Liquid, but there are three other liquid types: Tea, Soup, and Juice.

Tea is water that's changed by the introduction of a thing which is then removed

Soup is water that has a thing in it

Juice is water that comes from a thing

Don't forget folks: allowing yourself a vision of the future you'd want for our country and planet - not the one you'd settle for, not the one you fear, but the future of your dreams - isn't naive, it's a vital cognitive skill. That's how we articulate what we most value. What's worth fighting for.
Instead of whatever this is, we should have a government getting lots of new homes and apartments built, lots of clean energy built, lots of high speed rail and transit and bike lanes built, human rights for everyone, economic & healthcare opportunities for all, & innovation that leads the world.

In 2026 I want all of the decent people to remember one thing.

You aren’t meant to be this disciplined, this self-sacrificing to survive. The environment is supposed to support good living. We can have that. You are not a failure. That is politics.

That is all.

I don't want to "save time." I want to go down research rabbit holes that make hours mysteriously disappear, until I pop out again having learned something fascinating that I can't wait to breathlessly recount to others.
"but it'll save time!" i actually...don't care? lol. the genAI evangelists overestimate how much the people who chose to do research for a living (before chatgpt even existed) value "saving time." i'd rather do research well than do it quickly. i'd rather write an award-winning book than a fast book

This made me sob. Thank you for sharing Melissa Hortman's incredible life with us, @stephenrodrick.bsky.social.
I met Melissa Hortman in October of 2024. She was smart and kind. I heard about her murder in a LA hotel room and it dropped me to my knees. So I went to Minnesota and talked to her kids, parents, and friends. This is not true crime, this is Melissa in real life. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

This is definitely big need design energy in that he ignores entirely that cheeses are round because it's important for it to dry at an even speed. It would have been much easier historically to make square cheese forms. We don't do that because square cheeses don't age evenly.
I hate how much I enjoyed this

Browsing museums, galleries, libraries, bookstores have been some of the best hours of my life, but yes, its not instant gratification and its designed to take time
The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.
