Illnesses spread rapidly throughout the facilities, the detainees and their lawyers said, accelerated by sleeping quarters that are often cramped and communal bathrooms that are often filthy. Two families and one immigration lawyer said in interviews that when several children fell ill with stomach ailments at Dilley, CoreCivic's medical staff refused to treat them unless they had already vomited at least eight times.

J.J.B.'s holding cell at Whipple "could not hold more than 20 people" - yet it was packed with 100. (Id. I 12.) The room had a dirty toilet with excrement overflowing. (Id.) J.J.B. had to ask for toilet paper, but was sometimes denied. (Id.) There were no beds, blankets, or trashcans, and trash was all over the ground. (Id. I 13.) People slept in handcuffs and standing up because there was not enough room. (Id.) One person in J.J.B.'s cell had epilepsy and begged for medication; no one answered. (Id.) 12 CASE 0:26-cv-00749-NEB-DLM Doc. 95 Filed 02/12/26 Page 13 of 41 "ICE beat people and denigrated them." (Id. 9 15.) J.J.B. explains that it "seemed like the ICE officers wanted to scare" him, and they "treated [him] and the other detainees like animals." (Id. 1 22.) Through the duration of J.J.B.'s confinement, he was shackled by his ankles with handcuffs meant for wrists. (Id. I 12.) Because they were meant for wrists, they were too small and caused pain, and no one listened to his pleas to loosen them. (Id.) No one told J.J.B. what they were going to do to him. (Id. I 13.)

ICE has now spent over half a BILLION dollars just on purchasing warehouses around the country to convert into detention camps.

I think I said this a while ago while arguing with people who said that bots can do law / medicine.

The difficulty in practice is not simply knowing the symptoms of a clinical presentation. It is understanding that you have to ask people questions to make sure you understand what is happening.
When the researchers tested the LLMs without involving users by providing the models with the full text of each clinical scenario, the models correctly identified conditions in 94.9 percent of cases. But when talking to the participants about those same conditions, the LLMs identified relevant conditions in fewer than 34.5 percent of cases. People didn't know what information the chatbots needed, and in some scenarios, the chatbots provided multiple diagnoses and courses of action. Knowing what questions to ask a patient and what information might be withheld or missing during an examination are nuanced skills that make great human physicians; based on this study, chatbots can't reliably replicate that kind of care.

A desperate plea sent to me by a Minneapolis resident who's been on the front lines since the beginning of the ICE occupation:
Just a quick update from the Twin Cities. (Please forgive the unsolicited message). THINGS ARE NOT BETTER IN MINNEAPOLIS. The media is mostly moving on, Trump is focused on other stuff, BUT NOTHING HAS CHANGED ON THE GROUND. More than 2,000 DHS thugs continue to roam the streets, abducting people 24/7, assaulting legal observers with impunity, and routinely denying 1st, 4th, and 5th amendment rights. Drones and helicopters are overhead every day. Hundreds and hundreds of terrified families have not left their homes since mid-December ... relying on the community to bring them food and help with rent and other necessities. (Those people are NOT violent drug cartel sex offending murderers, as DHS would tell you. Most are legal residents or citizens.) If anything, things have just become more stressful and intractable (think trench warfare as a suitable metaphor): The resistance is better organized and numerous, but DHS has become more clever and better at disguise... and the county sheriff's office is increasingly supporting them . Do not let anyone tell you that Homans (the new person in charge of the occupation) is making anything better. Do not let anyone tell you that 700 ICE agents leaving the city has made much of a difference; the remaining force (again, ~2,000) is still larger than the entire city's police force (which is legally unable to do anything). Please call your congressional reps ... especially if there is any chance the administration might listen to them.

ICE told nurses this Minneapolis man “purposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall.”

What actually happened is that they pulled him from a car, beat him so viciously with a steel baton that he had 8 skull fractures, 5 life-threatening brain hemorrhages, and couldn’t remember he had a daughter.

But the violence he endured last month in Minnesota while being detained is seared into his battered brain. He remembers Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents pulling him from a friend’s car on Jan. 8 outside a St. Paul shopping center and throwing him to the ground, handcuffing him, then punching him and striking his head with a steel baton. He remembers being dragged into an SUV and taken to a detention facility, where he said he was beaten again. He also remembers the emergency room and the intense pain from eight skull fractures and five life-threatening brain hemorrhages.

… 25. This Cibola jail was horrible. It was cramped. I was chained up again. The officers mocked me and called me their enemy. They laughed at me. I was kept at the jail for what felt like around three hours. I wasn't given an explanation for why I was there. 26. Security guards then put me on a bus. I think it was around January 27. No one said anything about where I was going. I was handcuffed. It felt like the middle of the night. It was freezing cold in the bus because the driver had the AC on. We had no jackets. The bus eventually took me back to El Paso in the carly morning of Tuesday, January 27th. 27. I was put in a cold cell where I had to sleep on the bare cement floor. Around 10 in the morning my cellmate asked to speak to an ICE officer. Three officers came into the cell so I had a chance to speak to them too. One officer told me that I "had no chance of returning to Minnesota" and that "the best thing for (me] is self-deportation." She told me that if I fought my case, I would spend two to three more months here in El Paso. She offered me $2600 to self-deport. I refused. I wanted to talk to my attorney. They didn't tell me the judge had already ordered my release and return to Minnesota. If I hadn't managed to talk to my attorney who told me a while back that I was ordered released. I might have given up at this point and signed the self-deportation forms because the conditions were so unbearable. … 30. When I was taken back to the detention center from the airport, after missing the flight, I overheard an ICE officer saying in English, "the judge in Minnesota wants this one back." I was put in a cold jail cell again until early next morning (January 28). But again no one had told me directly that a judge had ordered my release … 32. When I arrived in Minneapolis, I was handed off to ICE … I had to sign lots of papers saying that I wasn't going to be a part of any "groups." I didn't know what they meant by "groups." They never told me why I was detained
