Shifting money from police and prisons to systems that meet people's needs are better for safety and, contrary to what you hear in the media, *one of the most popular policies* over decades of polling. Asking why this is hidden from us is important. equalityalec.substack.com/p/convention...

Delvin Francisco Rodriguez, 39, an immigrant from Nicaragua who has been in ICE custody since September, has died in a Mississippi hospital following a “failed test to determine brain function.”

It's unclear what caused his death.

It’s Day 22 of the ICE invasion of MSP.

Today we’ve seen a sharp increase in activity, likely the “surge” we’ve been expecting.

This is the moment to get involved, if you aren’t already.

the least shocking thing in the epstein files that wont get enough attention. police regularly arrest and charge victims to coerce them into participating, often jailing them in conditions that are worse.
jesus the Palm Beach Police really sought arrest warrants against underage Epstein victims for coming forward and cooperating, and (purported) admitting to crimes, and it caused the victims to become uncooperative with the federal investigation

NEW: New Mexico last year passed a major reform to end life without parole for minors.

NM has since released some people on parole who'd been convicted to life as kids, & already served decades.

But then the Dem AG issued a surprise opinion seeking to block releases of people being granted parole.
New Mexico Officials Block a Pathway to Freedom for Juvenile Lifers Despite Reforms - Bolts
New Mexico lawmakers banned life without parole for juveniles. But an opinion by the attorney general and parole board decisions could keep some from getting a second chance.

"Get the principals on camera" is such a telling phrase here, because it tells us that for Weiss there's no world in which the victims of these horrific actions can actually be seen as the subjects of the story: They're background noise, and the people who matter are the ones sending them.
Weiss concluded: “We need to be able to make every effort to get the principals on the record and on camera. To me, our viewers come first, not a listing schedule or anything else. And that is my North Star, and I hope it's the North Star of every person in this newsroom.”

Critically important.
Rare survey done in IDOC shows at least 2/3 of incarcerated people experienced homelessness or housing instability in 3 years prior to entering prison. Illinois needs a statewide reentry housing strategy to ensure effective reentry into society, advocates say.

FOUR new deaths in ICE detention. That puts the total this year at 30 people dead; the highest in ICE's history and worse than even during the COVID years.

It's clear that the system is breaking down. Many of these are preventable deaths.
In the 90 minutes since I posted this, I've gotten two more death notifications.

ICE has a responsibility to take care of these people, something they are clearly disregarding. This is beyond horrifying. We must ensure dignity and humanity for detained people in this country.
Within 15 minutes today, I got two back-to-back notifications of deaths at ICE facilities.

28 people have died in ICE custody since Trump took office. These facilities are overcrowded & are putting their own profits over health and safety. We need oversight & accountability NOW.

We are parents of a trans kid and our family takes this very, very personally. If you intentionally make life harder for our beloved daughter, it’s EXTREMELY hard to think of you as an ally, to say the least. @amyklobuchar.com - you still send us requests for money, while hurting our kid. Disgusted.
Here are the 28 Dem Senators who voted to advance the first federal ban on trans athletes & a federal definition of sex that would make trans & intersex people non-existent: Angela Alsobrooks (MD), Tammy Baldwin (WI), Richard Blumenthal (CT), Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE), Chris Coons (DE), ->
By a vote of 76-23, S 1071 passes the motion to proceed to the motion to concur. Won't know who voted for this until the roll call is uploaded, but safe to say it passed with the support of at least 24 members of the Democratic caucus. (Rand Paul probably voted nay and Steve Daines has been absent).

This tracks with my experience. DHS made up stories like this in Chicago, too. Every story ICE told about being attacked by community members was debunked in court. To assume anything they say is even potentially credible is irresponsible and out of touch with reality.
Re: the ICE actions in south Minneapolis Monday. DHS said "rioters" attacked officers with rocks and pepper spray. Note: I received lots of evidence and didn't see any rocks, the only pepper spray I saw was ICE agents sometimes spraying each other. I did see snow and possibly ice being thrown. (1)

Disheartening to see federal agents take two neighbors on 29th & Pillsbury. Chemical irritants were used on observers by them.

MPD showed up on scene, created a pathway for these federal agents to kidnap our neighbors, and assisted with controlling the space. Disappointing and heartbreaking.

There’s something definitively, inarguably evil in how Bureau of Prisons operates with respect to visitation.

Because I just drove 5 hours for a monthly visit only to be met with signs taped to the door “No Visitation Today”.

Families spend money & take PTO for these visits FFS.

We distributed notecards so people could tell us about the toll in their own words.
