There are over 18,000 types of lichen in existence. My personal favourite is ‘village bench lichen’, which devotes its entire existence selflessly to gradually making communal public seating more furry and comfortable.

I saw a post from a parent discussing “equipment grief”, or the realization on getting a mobility device they say has done wonders for their child that their life will be different than they imagined.

And it made me incandescently angry, as it does any time a parent puts blame on their kid’s needs.

A podcast asked me to record a voice note about my prediction for 2026 and here it is.
It is going to happen this year. You know what I mean. God’s will. Naturally of course. No need to come knocking on my door. I’m chilling at home and I’ll be chilling at home when it happens. Before I go running out into the streets that is. Shaking the mailman’s hand. Kissing nurses and shit. All of a sudden there’s a drumline and a mariachi band and breakdancers and fuckin… David Guetta is DJing on a rooftop if David Guetta is still alive. Maybe we’ll even get to watch it live on TV. The first flicker that something is really wrong. Slowing it down and rewinding it after like when Lisa broke Ralph’s heart. The realization in his eyes. The first single moment of self awareness in 80 years. Like a flailing panicked deer you’ve crashed your car into on the side of a snowy mountain pass. The eyes fluttering back and forth. Surely this can’t have been it. Perhaps a brief bargaining with God. God saying he’s going to pass on the deal. I do not agree with your terms sir. It’s gonna be like the Will Smith Summertime video out there. Everywhere. We’re all going to get fired from our jobs for posting. 100% unemployment. One good day.

A piece of AI-compiled bollocks offered in Amazon's Kindle Store. Apparently, it's three of Agatha Chistie's very early novels, but the horror is in the cover design. Firstly, the dropcap "B" from "Best works of" turns her name into Bagatha. But, more amazingly, they've chosen the legendary image from the film poster for The Exorcist for the cover. And Dame Agatha most definitely didn't write that one. (Peter Blatty did.)

There is no national security logic that would impel the US to want to do regime change in Venezuela. It's simply not that important. I'm not even sure wag the dog is the right metaphor for what's happening here. Seems like an insane misallocation of US national security assets and attention.

A Cowbot - a large, spherical robot with piebald patches, like the classic Holstein Friesian breed, with little horns, a golden bell hanging from where its neck would be if it wasn't just a big sphere, a pink snout, and a giant spring on a single foot instead of legs - with a tap on its side dispensing milk. Eight Maidbots - ovoid robots with banded arms and legs and blonde hair in braided pigtails - are lined up beside it with Pailbots - little metal buckets with legs and eyes, basically. The first Maidbot is walking away, smiling contentedly with a filled Pailbot (also looking content) in one arm. Then the next Maidbot is asleep (Pailbot not visible), the next is smiling with its Pailbot facing away from the frame, and the last one in the queue is angrily waving its arms around, while its Pailbot peeks out from behind its legs, staring daggers at the Maidbot at the front.
