OK so now that Reform UK are down to the same amount of MPs as the Green Party there really is no excuse for not giving them the same amount of screen time on current affairs shows.

“Gaie’s continued imprisonment is a stark illustration of this government’s shocking treatment of climate activists as well as a complete lack of accountability for failures in the outsourcing of public services and nonsensical incarceration of protestors in a prison service at breaking point.”
Poor Gaie Delap, who everyone seems to agree shouldn't be in prison, has had her sentence extended by 20 days due to a series of failures by Justice Minister Shabana Mahmood.

Meanwhile serious criminals are getting early release... goodlaw.social/e5jl
Failure of the state adds 20 days to Gaie Delap's sentence | Good Law Project
Government failures which recalled the 78-year-old to prison have now been turned into justification for an extension to her sentence. We’re joining Gaie’s family and a groundswell of legal and prison...

On the left, my image. On the right, the Al image that was clearly trained on, and designed to plagiarize, my image.

All Al generated imagery is inherently theft. It's unethical, environmentally disastrous, and does irreparable harm to both artists and society.

I'm pretty sure I only realised this isn't what he's singing, a few months ago.
I used to think Neil Tennant was singing 'In a west end town, a denim world' referring to people wearing a lot of denim in the 80s.

77-year-old Gaie Delap could be forced back to prison just because there isn’t an electronic tag that fits her – and she’s not the only one.

We’re supporting her to make sure people aren’t locked up just because of government failings.

Today, the UK government announced a proposal to change copyright law - for the benefit of AI companies - that would cause huge, irreversible harm to creators.

More info below, but most importantly here's what you can do (wherever you live):

Working in retail when I was young, it was very much this, only the Xmas tunes were all panpipe versions.
It’s that time of year again when supermarket staff are wearing Christmas jumpers, Santa hats, and the dead eye looks of people who want every customer dead, whilst their souls slowly drain from their bodies in despair after having to listen to Mariah Carey 487 times per shift.

Oh come on Labour - so depressing to hear Pat McFadden say UK has no plans for a youth mobility scheme with the EU. We have schemes with NZ, Australia, Canada, Japan, Iceland, Uruguay & more - only reason not to have one with EU is fear of right wing press. Such cowardice @bbclaurak.bsky.social

My new Guardian op-ed on the new GOP election lie - and why it's important to rebut it! I brought (lots of) receipts:
Donald Trump didn’t win by a historic landslide. It’s time to nip that lie in the bud | Mehdi Hasan
In 2024, we have a new post-election lie – Trump didn’t just win, Republicans say, but he won big. He won a landslide. That’s false

Do read this. It'll be one of those articles that stays with you for a very long time. Hopefully forever.
I've written about what dying typically looks like - not as a 'pro' or 'anti' AD piece, but in the spirit of confronting a taboo.

We've lost the easy familiarity with the patterns of dying that existed when death typically occurred in people’s own homes.

Let's talk about it 🙏

This will affect fewer than 500 farms, and the IFS says farms are "still more generously treated than they used to be in decades past"

It's just closing a loophole that's been used to avoid inheritance tax, and which pushes up farm rents and makes it harder for 76% if farmers to make a profit.

Good as far as it goes, but I don't see why the government doesn't just scrap photo ID for voting entirely. It was disproportionate to the scale of the problem and deprived people of their franchise in recent elections...
New voter ID measures, being heard in the Commons on the 13th November, will let holders of the new HM Armed Forces Veteran Card use it as accepted photo ID, implementing a Labour manifesto commitment
