Still seeking these dice.
Behold as I try to find someone who has a set of Charm Person Dispel Dice and would rather not have them anymore. I can trade other dice, or buy them. Ping me if that's you?

Yes, as always, please feel free to read my books from the library and also!
if your library doesn’t carry them, please request they purchase them for their collection 🙏 My indie titles are priced the exact same for libraries as bookstores! Eg. unlike big pub ebooks, mine will fit library budgets 🤓
Years ago I wiped all amazon links from my website. I’ve now unpublished my indie titles there for good (bc: “Ask This Book” feature🙄)

For now please buy my books via Kobo or Bookshop: bookshop.org/shop/SG_Wong
or borrow from libraries 🤓
All titles can be ordered from indie bookshops too 📚

Enthusiastic second for nasal barrier sprays! These work, folks.
Since masking is being discussed, I wear a mask most places. I also use a nasal barrier spray and because I have mast cell fuckery that continues to not be diagnosed as anything, I take a lot of antihistamines. I don't get sick often anymore. Because I mask.

We were at the emergency vet yesterday.

It’s raining steadily here and temps are dropping 30+ degrees (f) to well below freezing in a few hours tonight.

These are textbook black ice conditions; everyone be careful out there!

Do you know how NOT difficult it is to wear a mask on an airplane? Seriously… it’s not hard, folks, and protects not only you and your family but also reduces potential vectors crossing states/countries.
Yes to both. I'm begging all of you to please wear masks when traveling.

People were sneezing and coughing all over my flights on the way back, and we can all do better to look out for each other.
Because of the Trump admin’s antivax stance this years flu shot (which you still should get) isn’t a very good match for what’s circulating. All the more reason to also wear a mask.

"Family completes 115-year-old quilts"

A very touching story about a century old quilt and the enduring love of generational fiber arts.

So the DB and I are home from travels.
The cats are thrilled to see us.
However this means Gwen Kitty is determined to sleep *directly* on my head as I attempt to nap.
I am not as enthralled as one might assume, but I feel bad for leaving her so cannot evict her from our bedroom as usual.
*sigh*

@andrewjack.bsky.social this says we need to collab on a Pacific-based something!
Related to conversations about fantasy adventure and colonialism: one thing that is very interesting about D&D's medievalism is that its default geography -- frontiers, large areas of wilderness, etc. -- is not particularly what medieval W. Europe was like.

THREAD.

My parents' cat Bridget vanished. As the weeks dragged on they became ever more worried, so to distract himself my dad began to paint Bridget's adventures, imagining her travelling through time and popping up at some of art & music's most important moments.

I've collected his work here...

Finally, if you can get through the paywall this piece from earlier in the week illuminates how the experience above is just a tiny part of an industrial-scale, global, and sector-wide catastrophe of AI and citations to nonexistent papers in academic publishing bsky.app/profile/mile...
Academics and technologists are sounding the alarm about a growing crisis in scholarship as we know it: AI-generated citations of nonexistent papers that have infested real journals. Despite being fake, the sources are widely assumed to be authentic the more they appear in published literature.
AI Is Inventing Academic Papers That Don't Exist -- And They're Being Cited in Real Journals
Academic articles from authors using large language model are creating an ecosystem of fake research that threatens human knowledge itself.

Also: boarding an airplane (especially little airports where you may have to deal with stairs along the jetway) can take a lot longer than disembarking. We always try to pre-board (note: without wheelchair) because -to copy the gate agent’s spiel- we ‘need a little extra time to get on board.’
My mom does this. She’s legally blind, and managing leading her and holding onto luggage and getting through a terminal and not losing things is too much for my dad to manage on his own. This is the only way they can get help, so that’s what they do.

Are there people who game the system? Odds say yes.
Are there seemingly able-bodied passengers who really aren’t? Most assuredly.
Is it MYOB day every day? Oh hells yes.

Authors, remember that you CAN insist on human translation for your foreign-language editions and have it written into your contracts. You can no longer just assume you're going to get a human to work on the book whose every word you wrote with intent.

MMR is classified as a lifetime vaccine but antibodies can wane after several decades. For those of us who got the vaccine several decades back, a blood draw and titer test may be worthwhile to check immunity!
I got that a couple of weeks ago! Per @rahaeli.bsky.social’s admonitions to talk with one’s doctor when of a certain age, I did, and he did the titer test with my blood draw. Zero immunity to measles. 😬 Gimme that good stuff, right in the arm!

Also: request the book from your local library!
Reviews are great! Also, tell everyone you know about books you have enjoyed. People are more likely to buy a book vouched for by someone they know, so tell your friends and family and social media followers!
"I can't afford to support my favorite author right now, I—"

Reviews.

Reviews are free AND they are a gift to authors that can keep on giving (i.e., exposure, marketing, algo boosts, etc.)

Please, give the gift of reviews to your authors this holiday season. It really can make a difference!

BTW...you can get shingles IN YOUR EYES. Imagine that.
PSA: if anyone in your life is trying to dissuade you from getting the shingles shot, you should probably assume that person hates you, and wants you to suffer. There is literally no other explanation.

Shingles hurts worse than childbirth. Worse than knee surgery. Worst pain of my life.
I am baffled by this because I have had so many friends with shingles and NONE of them made it sound fun. Not one. A vaccine that made me absolutely miserable for 48 hours would still be a huge improvement over the mildest case of shingles I've heard of. (Also it made me tired for 1 day.)

‘What Child Is This’ and ‘Where the River Meets the Sea’ from John Denver and the Muppets Christmas Album
What is your favorite "Christian" Christmas song and what is your favorite "Secular" Christmas song?

I will probably always adore "O Come All Ye Faithful" and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" for Christian.

And "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)" for secular.
