Whenever they say “Quad God” (a nickname he gave himself that everyone uses) I think of all the people who got so upset that Simone Biles dared to lean into the GOAT thing (a nickname she didn’t give herself that she def had earned). Misogyny is for sure alive and well.

I'm hardly the first person to note this, but it's enormously instructive that our President and his followers saw the message "THE ONLY THING MORE POWERFUL THAN HATE IS LOVE" and understood it, correctly, as an attack on them
What a moment.

The layoffs at the Washington Post have begun, with newsroom leaders telling employees its sports and books sections will be 'eliminated in current forms' and its international coverage will be downsized

So many people got news their grants were revoked yesterday (another round of revocations). The people we pay to represent us are just fleecing us more than ever, disappearing our tax dollars while destroying the institutions we pay for.
My PhD student's NSF grant was terminated today. Her dissertation investigates why air pollution monitoring, metrics, and regulations don't properly capture the harms experienced by marginalized communities--esp in the most polluted Detroit neighborhoods. She and I are happy to talk with press etc.

A colleague at Stanford’s business school used The Stanford Daily to argue—poorly—against DEI. The piece was riddled with historical errors and left one searching for fact, so I broke my public writing hiatus to respond.

I hope you’ll read and share the piece.

What DEI threatens isn’t merit. It’s monopoly.
Political science professor Hakeem Jefferson argues for DEI's importance to de-monopolizing universities.

It's easy to fire grant management specialists when you have no interest in grants being managed (or given at all)....
The biggest hit to extramural program staff appears to be grants management specialists (GMSs). It appears that 15-20% of GMSs were terminated.

This is quite concerning since these folks have already missed essentially a month of getting-grants-out time and have lots to do. They already work hard.

We as a country will save nothing. Federal employee salaries make up just 4% of the budget—roughly $271 billion. So even if every federal worker were fired, that’s the maximum you’d save. Meanwhile, the U.S. House GOP has released a budget that raises the debt limit by $4 trillion.

Guess I have someone new to call…both as a Virginian & a Virginia Tech grad who values the important work our research universities do. Guess I should throw Youngkin in there as well seeing as he doesn’t have our fed workers’ backs.
Because Virginia AG Jason Miyares chose party loyalty over Virginians' wellbeing, this order unfreezing medical research funding doesn't apply in VA. Miyares refused to join the suit on medical research, and the order only applies to plaintiff states. We need leaders willing to stand for Virginians.
NEW:

Federal judge in Massachusetts enters Emergency Temporary Restraining Order blocking Trump Administration from cutting health research grant money, including 15% cap on overhead costs.
