too much of Woke 1 was about words (something plenty of marginalized people noted at the time!) Woke 2 is going to be about power, specifically building it, and using it.

MGP needs to get primaried, and also WA Dems need to pursue redistricting because you can pretty easily give MGP a Harris district without hurting any other Democrats, you just have to give her the Yakama Nation and the blue parts of the city of Yakima and the Yakima Valley
Dreaming that someone competent will primary MGP out of WA’s 3rd. I know she narrowly flipped it from Joe Kent but I would rather gamble on someone else winning it than let MGP the traitor keep it

my Blackest opinion is that the presumption of conflict between "America has a long and deeply rooted history of violence" and "we can and should fight against today's version of that, as did those who came before us" is less a philosophical debate about how to treat the past and more a skill issue

it is incredibly important that all of these details are aired again when there is an opportunity for accountability because the horrors will be endless and it will quickly dampen any claims of 'weaponizing' DOJ or whatever
The 5-year-old arrested by ICE In Minnesota is detained at Dilley. We reported on conditions there in the below article.

Parents said the food was contaminated with mold and worms & that children were so under so much stress that they were hitting their own faces & wetting themselves.
Analysis by The Marshall Project of ICE data obtained by the Deportation Data Project found that the Trump administration’s revival of family detention has swept thousands of children into ICE custody. At least 3,800 children under 18, including 20 infants, have been booked since Trump took office.

I wasn't sure what to expect from a group of Democratic state AGs, but I definitely was not expecting a long monologue about Ruby Ridge and the Boston Massacre www.theverge.com/policy/86588...

I know people keep saying this but it’s hard to communicate the depth of active resistance here. Like, I’m on random cafes and people are checking in for observation shifts. Signs everywhere. Folks in visibility vests on the corners. It’s wild. Absolutely wild.

FWIW:

Golden is retiring.

The filing deadline has passed in NC; Davis is the only Dem running.

The filing deadline has passed in TX; Gonzalez & Cuellar both have primary opponents.

Gillen has several Dem opponents as well, as does Perez.

If you want to primary Suozzi, you still have until 3/30.

Could a Democrat, any Democrat, release a statement actually thanking the people that have been out there doing the fucking work instead of this constant scolding tone for the love of God
Respectfully, look at this fucking bullshit that we’re dealing with, not a single person here has “taken the bait.” We have born witness as little kids are used as bait and neighbors are kidnapped on our streets. A mad dipshit is going to invoke the Insurrection Act regardless and you are blaming us
Violence only helps Trump & may provide him an excuse to further trample our rights by invoking the Insurrection Act.

in Trump I we all suffered but most of the country didn't, at least until COVID. it is vital for the survival of global stability and our fragile republic that the suffering be completely indiscriminate and inescapable.

I will, as I periodically do, note that the last time a U.S. major party's governing elite got this far out of step with the views of its own voters, we got Donald Trump and the Tea Party
I'm still thinking of the fact that Zohran Mamdani went on The View, said "abolish ICE" and then got a round of applause

If you want better policy, elect more Democrats. Every race, every year, every place. This dumbass solution is the only one that works.

The advanced version is "also, elect better Dems whenever you can". It requires holding two ideas in your head at the same time so many struggle with it
The VA senate got to these today, and all passed as expected

Abortion rights: 21-18
Post-incarceration voting rights: 21-18
Gay marriage: 26-13
Redistricting: 21-18

April 21st is the first eligible Tuesday, so that’s my guess for referendum EDay
the four VA constitutional amendments passed the HoD

Abortion rights: 64-34
Post-incarceration voting rights: 65-33
Gay marriage: 67-31
Redistricting: 62-33-1

Think the earliest referendum Election Day would be April 21, so early voting would start in early March

I said this morning that we would win. But we will lose — and lose badly — if the opposition party doesn't recognize the gravity of the situation.

Schumer and Jeffries must be supplanted as the party leadership's center of gravity. It's vital. They're not capable of leading us through this.
ABC News reporting 1,500 active duty soldiers are on standby to deploy to MINNESOTA.

The soldiers are from the 11th Airborne Division, based at Joint Base Elmendorf--Richardson, one of the Army's premier infantry formations.

The division is also the military's leading formation for Arctic warfare

Unless there is radical reform and soon, we're heading for a new national parallel to most major cities with the Federal government, where DHS (like major police departments) simply operates as it wishes, flagrantly disobeys administrations it doesn't support, and actively intervenes in politics.

NEW from me: Yesterday, I rode along with an ICE observer patrolling the same neighborhood where Renee Good was killed.

It only took a few minutes until Rev. Horan, who is a Unitarian Universalist minister, spotted suspected ICE vehicles. religionnews.com/2026/01/14/i...
In the neighborhood where Renee Good was killed, a pastor keeps patrolling for ICE
MINNEAPOLIS (RNS) — ‘There’s no option for me,’ said the Rev. Ashley Horan during a neighborhood patrol. ‘It is my responsibility to care for my neighbors in this way.’

Having seen several abductions up close, it is really hard to convey how much the thing they’re doing is roaming in military convoys until they see someone who is alone and isn’t white, and then jumping out in large numbers, pulling them into a van, and screeching off, all in 90 seconds or so.
"“They specifically asked me if I knew where the Hmong families lived on my street & in the neighborhood.” Lugert-Thom responded, “I don’t know anything about that” & she said they then asked, “Well, what about the Asian families?”"

"“I was a bit shaken & a bit shocked of what I was asked to do.”"
A St. Paul resident says federal officers knocked on her door and asked her to identify Hmong and Asian households in her North End neighborhood last week.

Jonathan Ross was hired in 2016, under Obama, and served through Biden's full term. He's not even a CBP transfer like Bovino. ICE has always been like this, and Obama's absolutely pointless efforts to bolster his border credentials led us here.

You and your wife drop your 6-year-old off at school. You just moved here. You see ICE terrorizing your new neighbors. You film them, as is your legal right. Your wife complies with orders. She is then shot in the head. You still have to pick up your child later today.

This could be you.

See also not punishing people for the Bush Era torture stuff. You gotta establish consequences. Vengeance *will* be more important than any sort of unity.
This is why, even if there is a big electoral defeat for the GOP in '28, the Dems need to ruthlessly strike while the iron is hot and dole out real consequence to the major and minor players here. Four years later and swing voters will no longer believe any of this is bad.
My dad a day after 1/6 was rattled, borderline horrified. Two weeks later he was asking me how I could get so worked up about a walking tour of the U.S. Capitol. Propaganda works!

i really, truly, sincerely believe that righting the equilibrium for the united states depends upon congressional democrats reclaiming congress' first-amongst-equals role in governance, and everything short of that — including a transformative president — is a failed half-measure
a lot of problems wouldn't exist if we had a congress with even an ounce of self interest

yep. i can identify any number of structural issues but at the end of the day the basic problem is the republican party. this has been apparent for at least 20 years. it is also an incredibly unpopular observation to make among “serious” people.
Right.

If you want a good explanation of why the American system of government worked well enough for 200 years and then suddenly stopped, it's because Republicans in Congress suddenly started letting their partisan interests COMPLETELY override their institutional interests
