Trump lied about immigrants in 2016 too. He then defeated an official from the administration that holds the deportation record.

If migration caused Trump's reelection (I don't think it did), it wasn't b/c of migrants. It was b/c mainstream, centrist outlets amplified fearmongering about migrants.
Not going to read them all because jesus fucking christ but this is nasty work from Friedersdorf

i believe in confiscatory policy targeting assets of every single person with the trump surname not because i think we can use it to pay for healthcare or pay down the debt or whatever, but because they stole it and it doesn’t belong to them
i can remember how in the 80s and the 90s, imelda marcos’ shoe collection was a shorthand for comically naked thievery and corruption and now we have a first family who literally shat in golden toilets
one of the things that’s harder to see while we are in it, but will jump off the page at future historians, is how deeply corrupt *the entire trump family* is, and how they abused and and manipulated every lever of the federal government they could grab to steal everything that isn’t nailed down

I think that the US is lucky in that when voters finally cocked it up and elected EXACTLY the kind of piece of shit that the framers spent oceans of ink and forests worth of the yellow crinkly paper warning about, he turned out to be almost uniquely bad at anything besides conning the guillible.

KERNEN: You lost the election! That doesn't give you right to shut down govt

C: I have to fight for the core value of our democracy, including law enforcement that doesn't murder citizens

I know a lot of people operate off the assumption all unions are good and should be regarded as such at all times but they are in fact very different depending on their leadership and membership.

If “politics is about state violence” makes you fascist, then every political tendency that’s actually exercised meaningful control over anything is fascist lol.
Stancilite proving he's a Fascist.
Politics is establishing, contesting, controlling, or using the state’s monopoly on the use of violence to make people do things they do not want to do. Rest is noise.

Homan is smarter than Bovino (no real feat, there). He understands that if he does stuff that signals that we’re in the denouement of the crisis, media will move on. But brutality with observers is escalating, ICE is still omnipresent. Little sign on the ground that it’s over

it’s difficult to overstate how much the next generation of Republicans is worse

we’re seeing a little of it bleed into the current admin with their social media interns but basically every young person actively engaged in Republican politics is a psychotic freak who should be exiled from society

I’m so old I remember when A. Specter was haunting the Republican Party.
"I'm not on the ballot" is the spectre haunting the Republican Party.
Q: In Texas, a Democrat won a special election in an area you won by 17 points. Your reaction?

TRUMP: I don't know. I didn't hear about it. Somebody ran -- where?

Q: In Texas

TRUMP: I'm not involved. You mean I won by 17, and this person lost? Things like that happen. I'm not on the ballot

As wild as this sounds, I really do think “president connected to notorious pedophile sex trafficker, corrupting law enforcement to cover it up, now in explicit violation of a specifically tailored law,” while easily impeachable in its own, is at most the fourth worst scandal this week.
4) And they STILL haven’t released the Epstein files.
Of the biggest scandals in US history just this week, I think I’d rank them:

1) Federal paramilitaries invade US city based on racist lies, murder US citizens

2) Slush fund for the president from stolen foreign resources held in Qatar

3) Whatever FBI and DNI are doing re: 2020 election in Georgia

Trump is revoking protected status for tens of thousands of Haitians living there on Feb. 3.

Reportedly, on Feb. 4, 1000 ICE agents are arriving to remove this population. Ethnic cleansing.

Unless we see real change in how ICE/CBP operates, it is too soon to declare one more phantom Trump pivot
I'm calling bullshit on the media narrative that Trump is "pivoting" and "deescalating" on his ICE raids. The threshold is this: As long as the military occupations and the treatment of US cities as enemy territory continue, there's no pivot. ICE out. 1/
