PSA:

There will likely be thousands of drunk drivers on the roads across the country tonight and for the next few days.

The phrase "I'm fine to drive" is a cultural disease. It isn't limited to bad neighborhoods or bad people, it spans every single tax bracket.

I see there’s a post about microplastics going around with a photo of drinking straws, so here is my semi-regular reminder that the 3 biggest sources of microplastics are tires (45%), synthetic clothing particles (35%) and paint (~10%).
Lay article attached:
One of the biggest microplastic pollution sources isn’t straws or grocery bags – it’s your tires
Every few years, the tires on your car wear thin and need to be replaced. But where does that lost tire material go? The answer, unfortunately, is often waterways, where the tiny microplastic particle...

Less than a week after they were installed, many of the flex posts on the BU bridge have been destroyed by vehicles. Appreciate the thought but cyclists clearly need more protection at these intersections.

Do this everywhere please!
Think about your holiday/break plans.

Across Minneapolis, too many of our neighbors will be holed up indoors (many with young kids) because it isn’t safe for them to go to work, shop for groceries, take their kids to the playground, shovel snow, etc.

Check in with your neighbors.
Help if you can.

More reasons to keep my sons out of cars.
Not all men are bad drivers. But statistically they are a lot more likely to get killed in a car wreck.

Macho car culture contributes, including action movies with car chases

We rightfully talk about journalists using the "exonerative tense" but they do thatbecause the police use that language too. The reality is that reporters/editors/producers at many news outlets devote very little time to stories about traffic deaths and choose the easiest path: repeating copaganda.
Like @pflax1.bsky.social was saying the other day. The media just parrots what the police write in their reports, which often preemptively exonerate the driver and never mention dangerous street design.

Unbelievable that anyone would accept fog as sufficient explanation for a child's death.

Yet another reason to make it so that families that live in cities have the freedom to choose how they move from A to B. Biking and walking put you face forward into the environment you inhabit.
Kids Who Get Driven Everywhere Don't Know Where They're Going
A new study suggests vehicular travel affects children's ability to navigate their neighborhood and connect to their community.

For children walking or cycling to school, "outside the school" is the least dangerous part of their journey. Children need 20mph limit protection on the whole of their home to school route. 20mph "just outside schools" contemptuously disregards duty of care on child mobility
School gate risk
We support those communities that want 20mph where peopleare
