It's so exhausting to to be constantly told by American leaders that the defining policy of the 80 odd years during which the US became the most wealthy and powerful country in the history of the world was a grossly unfair failure for them.
US trade secretary Howard Lutnick really not mincing his words here at Davos: "We are here to make a v clear point: globalisation has failed the West and the USA. It's a failed policy. It's what the WEF has stood for, which is, export, offshore, find the cheapest labour in the world."

The way to end all this is for the EU to immediately get hyper-aggressive with sanctioning and tariffing every American they can find.

The man has worse approvals than at any point in his prior term plus it’s an election year. It’s all a bluff. Call it!

If I was advising the EU—and I 100% should be—my advice is that you prepare three sets of sanction packages:
1. Deliberate targeting of personal/corporate assets of Trump, Musk, Andressen, Sacks, etc like they’re Russian oligarchs by doing stuff like seizing Gigafactory Berlin. This gets used first.

America has deindustrialized so much they can't even manufacture consent
I still can't believe they're trying to make a war happen out of thin air. Not just their abrogation of Congress's role in formally declaring a war -- that's been a slippery slope for decades -- but their total unwillingness even to go through the motions of drumming up public support.

When cameras are installed, they issue many violations in the first month, followed by a steep decline in the second month. This suggests that the cameras effectively deter speeding by changing underlying driver behavior rather than relying on sustained revenue extraction.

using illegal and unconstitutional accounting gimmicks to keep paying the military so that you can deploy them to launch illegal and undeclared wars in colombia and venezuela while the rest of the government remains shut down is getting pretty close to the Very Bad scenarios
this is why i keep asking about the federal government's books, because everything they're doing is the kind of thing that creates massive accounting disruptions, and it's like no one in political media has even given a single thought to it
Something that's just occurred to me is how are they going to account for these payments when the shutdown ends? Like, if they act as if these were part of regular paid salaries, you're going to see some soldiers bring claims of "No, that was a private gift, pay my full wages on top of that please".
