Okay, I know this is so far beyond the point, but

Sauron? This guy named his security company after the character whose entire story is “I died because my security measures, while seemingly impressive, were actually incapable of predicting or stopping the thing that lead to my demise”?

Love these techbros who think they’re the master race and the smartest guys in the room, yet fail to understand the message of what is a pretty straightforward story.

I told someone that if I’m not talking about Trump/MAGA don’t bring it up in the comments and they blocked me.

A lot of sad things about what’s happening right now, but *one of* the sad things is the total colonization of peoples’ brains by Trump, as he designed, even if they don’t support him.

It was reprehensible when people mocked condom usage at the height of the AIDS pandemic.

It is just as depraved to mock those wearing masks to reduce the spread of airborne viruses today.

Whenever someone takes any kind of step to protect public health, they should be applauded, not mocked.

That plus the harassment when people can see your skin color, your queerness, anything that invites people to be bigots even when what you‘re discussing is completely separate from your identity
will also add - yes, this is my personal crusade - that turning podcasts into videos implicitly asks women to once again make more effort than men, as the bar for "camera-ready" for one gender is obviously higher than for the other
‘Painful to hear!’ How podcasts’ rush to video is turning them into dreadful listens

Here's a simple happiness hack:

Do something for someone that is truly altruistic. Do it in secret if you can, and take no credit, if you can manage that in a world that sees everything.

Do this as often as your circumstances allow, which may be once a year or once a day.

Try it and see.

no, they’re saying the toaster is having horrific impacts on the labor and environment and it’s weird that your inadequate ability to brainstorm on your own matters more than that. oh, and the toaster generates child porn. so there’s that.
there are indeed a lot of problems with AI, and I am not an uncritical champion of it (see my vitriolic rants on photorealistic images). But I feel like a lot of people are trying to make grilled fish with a toaster and getting mad that it outputs something inedible.

as a (virtually) lifelong NYer here's the deal: all pizza is good. deep dish rules. detroit pizza is goated. lunch lady cafeteria pizza was a joy. the only dubious pizza culture is california because it tries too hard but even (most) california pizza is fantastic. grow up
again chicagoans need to grow a set and stand up for themselves. deep dish is the superior pizza, you don’t have to do this cowardly whimpering “oh actually we like thin crust that’s cut into squares for no damned reason” thing. this is why the rancid packers have been clowning you for 30 years

Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.
