The perennial question in American politics is “Who is fully human?”

We settled on a bipartisan “American citizens are fully human. All others are debatable.”
When people are like “Bill Kristol supports trans rights now“ I think: that motherfucker helped ensure a war that killed up to a million people in Iraq and lay the groundwork for a US police state. I do not have to let him or any of those W-era monsters into the tent.

My sincere year-end thought isn’t an original one, but its importance has been underscored to me repeatedly over the last 12 months: be free with telling the people you love that you love them, casually, and at every chance. Great love, small love, every type of love.

Back in the days when I was still going to church, the pastor who eventually persuaded me to stop going to church had a phrase that he liked to say a whole lot, and for all I know he still likes to say it.

The phrase was "we're creating victims and villains."

You really do not have to "hand it to" Goldman, a rep who doesn't respond to constituent outreach with anything but a form letter, and who voted for Trump's crypto bill.
I officially regret and apologize for any time I publicly opined about a local race that was not my own.

I'm on the other side of it now, and seeing non-NY-10ers share their opinions about Goldman and Lander is making my teeth itch.

I always run into Brad Lander around the neighborhood because he's on his way to help people out; Goldman was supposed to be at a community meeting (of mostly elderly folks!) who had all come out to talk with him, and at the last minute, he FaceTimed in from his car instead, and left the call early.
I've probably photographed Brad Lander more than any other elected in NYC because the dude shows up. He's everywhere, he's incredibly accessible, and he genuinely loves New Yorkers. You can literally go up and talk to him whenever he shows up. Go ahead, try it!

(I have NEVER seen Goldman ANYWHERE.)

Brad Lander launching his campaign for a House seat with a terrific video that is definitely a nod to the *guy who beat him in a primary* is a pretty great bit of evidence for how a primary can create more than one winner.
ITS OK TO HAVE PRIMARIES IT IS IN FACT GOOD.

A bunch of progressives are going to win primaries next year, and a bunch of centrists are going to try to reinvent themselves as progressives in order to win primaries.

These are both positive developments, even from the perspective of wanting the progressives to win their races.

This is, of course, only magnified by the obvious problem here in that Democrats have already FAILED at Donald Trump Not Being President--twice! And so now their discourse must solely be in the perspective of "You being mean to the guy who is not Donald Trump is why Donald Trump is president"

The simple reality is there is a huge faction in the party--often the dominant one--that truly does not care about anything except Donald Trump not being president which is why any criticism of a Guy Who Is Not Donald Trump is considered detrimental to their goal of Donald Trump Not Being President
