I want to know how things work. I read, paint, spin, own pets and wander with them.
I live in rural GA and have lived in NY and NJ.

Rob Reiner: I'm going to make a coming of age drama, a fantasy adventure story, a romantic comedy, a psychological horror and then a courtroom drama.

Us: Across your entire career?

Reiner: In a 6 year period.

Us: That sounds-

Reiner: -Each one will be arguably the best movie in that genre.

1. His aunt had a lobotomy because mental healthcare was terrible.
2. Schools didn’t have to take any disabled children until the 1970’s. Wow, we see more people with this disability going to school and being diagnosed since we stopped warehousing anyone odd from early childhood.
RFK Jr: I've never seen a case of full-blown autism in a 70-year-old man. You're only seeing it in the kids. It's an epidemic.

As CNN offers daylong saturation coverage of the podcaster’s funeral, I went back and checked to see how CNN covered Melissa Hortman’s memorial on 6/28, where Walz spoke and Biden/Harris attended.

It got about four minutes during the hours it was happening—less than Jeff Bezos’s wedding that day.

I gave my heart and soul to that place. Built entire sections for journalists pushed out of their home countries.

When the writer I hired, Jamal Khashoggi was murdered by Saudi Arabia, they paraded me around as a symbol for press freedom.

I put MY LIFE on the line to defend journalism and WaPo.
weird that neither of these articles two main stories decrying censorship mention WaPo's firing of @karenattiah.bsky.social I guess democracy really does die in darkness

There was a beautiful red oak in a park near me. I took photos of it for “thick trunk Thursday” on twitter. I don’t know if I ever posted them.
One of the many storms knocked it over, I just saw it today.
I mourn this tree. I mourn that children were attacked at their school.
Innocents.

This is Virginia Guiffre's statement to Ghislane Maxwell, read by Guiffre's attorney in court the day Maxwell was sentenced.

I had to divide it into 2 parts. Please read each & share.

These are the words of a child rape victim, a victim of the monster Trump now protecting & arranging her freedom.

This is a great moment for all of us to give our local officials hell about their incredibly dangerous reliance on Facebook and Twitter/X for disaster communication in the year 2025.

There is no excuse for referring people to private data-thieving platforms that require a log-in just to view posts.
I wonder if a public calling out by citizens about those being the go-to announcement sites would help at all. I am truly afraid that it will take huge emergencies and disasters like the one in Texas to wake people up.

Notice how the cops tell him to put his hands behind his back AT THE SAME TIME THEY KEEP HIS ARMS FROM MOVING.

This is not uncommon.

There was a police killing of an unarmed drunk man in Vegas a few yrs back, where the cops yelled contradictory things at the man then shoot him for “not complying.”

Well...

1) maybe an industry that requires poaching and remaking existing content doesn't deserve to be an industry?

2) maybe Nick can hire thousands of writers, artists, musicians and photographers to create the centuries of material that AI doesn't exist without?

So let me get this straight, when I say there's no ethical way to use GenAI, it's because I'm wrong and shortsighted and hate technology, but when this guy says there's no ethical way to use GenAI, it's because he's right and super forward thinking and ahead of the game?

Republicans in Utah commissioned an investigation into gender-affirming care for trans youth after banning it in 2023.

They're now rejecting the findings of that investigation which showed access to care reduced suicides and improved "positive mental health and psychosocial functioning outcomes."
Utah lawmakers’ own study found gender-affirming care benefits trans youth. Will they lift the treatment ban?
The Utah Legislature's own newly-released study found that gender-affirming care benefits trans youth. Now, will lawmakers lift the treatment ban?
