Took part yesterday in @freieuniversitaet.bsky.social's Replication Games, it was such a nice experience! People were lovely and the work was a very fun challenge.

Thanks to @i4replication.bsky.social and @janmarcus.de for organizing this, it was absolutely worth enduring the ride from Dortmund. 😄

I am super happy about the IZA network and DP series having found a new home at @liser.lu . Having visited in the past, I think LISER is the kind of place IZA could (and should ) have been. I wish them all the best!

An interesting moment in German politics. A former minister is indicted for false testimony at at an investigative committee in parlament. He cries WHICH HUNT, i.e., that the indictment is politically motivated.

It will be important how many of his political allies play along with him.

It's been 2 years (+ 1 month) since I left academia. In case anyone is wondering, I have zero regrets. Indeed, I'm living my best life and am so happy I made the leap.

If you're considering leaving too, here are some thoughts on how to explore your options/find a job you'll love...

9.2% of all citations go to just 0.32% of psychology articles.

To have the most impact, post-publication peer-review should focus on these influential articles with ≥30 citations per year.

@error.reviews will systemically sample from such articles.

Throwback 1970:
#RIPOzzy

Code sharing isn’t the whole battle—but it’s a low-cost, high-impact step toward more credible science.

In short: If your paper has results, it should have code.

5.) What supervisors & teachers can do:
🎓 Train students in reproducible coding practices
📚 Include it in methods courses
🌱 Good habits start early
janmarcus.de
4.) What researchers can do (that’s us!):
🧑‍💻 Prepare replication code for every project
📂 Annotate clearly
🔁 Version appropriately
🧾 Cite reused code
It’s part of being a professional
janmarcus.de
3.) What universities & institutions can do:
🏛 Require code submission for theses, reports, and internal research outputs
🏅 Reward transparent work (e.g., through performance-based funding)
janmarcus.de
2.) What funders can do:
💸 Make code sharing part of grant conditions
💡 If you fund the research, you should fund and require its transparency
janmarcus.de
1.) What can journals do?
✅ Require code uploads to repositories like OSF or Harvard Dataverse (mandatory code sharing)
✅ Especially important when data can’t be shared
✅ Enable crowd-sourced reproducibility—even if in-house checks are too costly
janmarcus.de
Alternatives like "emailing authors" or "describing code in text" don’t work.
❌ Emails go unanswered
❌ Text is vague or incomplete
✅ Code is precise, inspectable, and teachable
