I need to review the impact of my work on society, then this pops up in my search - I did not get better at public speaking (maybe never will), but I did get better at bringing more people into this work :)

There is an unusual kind of grief that community members experience when there is a tragic loss of public servants. This week, we lost two Victoria Police officers in Porepunkah, Australia. My heart goes out to the Blue Family, families of Neal and Vadim. Thank you for your service. Never forgotten.

We’re deeply disappointed negotiations for a global plastics treaty have ended without a final agreement.
Over the past 3 years, the momentum has been undeniable. The world now understands, plastic is a full lifecycle problem that demands systemic solutions, & that its health impacts are profound.

MEDINFO25 is an incredible array of presentations with AI dominating almost every session. It would be fair to say that the sheer volume of AI use is overwhelming. I got excited about seeing the word 'sustainability' only to find that it was not in the context of the environment. This must change!

New article!

It’s not just climate: rethinking ‘climate emotions’ in the age of burnout capitalism by Michael J. Albert.

doi.org/10.1080/0964...
ABSTRACT
Just as political ecologists have critiqued narratives of ‘climate migration’ and ‘climate conflict’ for their implicit climate determinism, this article argues that scholars should move beyond climate-centric accounts of ‘climate emotions.’ To do so, I will critically analyze climate emotions scholarship through the lens of Feminist Marxist analyses of the ‘care crisis’ of neoliberal capitalism. By bringing these literatures together, this paper will demonstrate how emotional responses to ecological crises are conditioned and constrained by neoliberal capitalism’s exploitation of the emotional and caring capacities of workers (particularly women and racialized workers), which leads to the systemic production of burnout, apathy, and various mental health challenges. By deepening our analysis of the links between these crises and their shared capitalist roots, we will be in better position to develop strategies of socio-ecological transformation that can address what I call the ‘polycrisis’ of ecology, care, and mental health.

I am tired of reviewing so many reviews - most lack insights and lessons learned, and even more lack methodological rigour to ensure that the message sent means something.
If people are doing reviews for publication purposes, for heaven's sake, make it count! Challenge the status quo!

This need not be uncomfortable; some people attending COP do it because they believe that COP policies, such as the UAE Declaration on Climate and Health, could move things in a better direction for this planet.
