I hate that it has come to this, but my biomom has been partly paralyzed due to gallbladder issues sustained throughout much of this year. She’s recovered several vital functions (speaking, eating solid food, breathing on her own), but her limbs remain incapacitated. Please help if you can.

Single-winner districts, even minority-majority, were never a good idea for legislative bodies. The Democratic Party collective must leave them behind. Time to aggressively fight for proportional representation.

if global rightwing authoritarianism is doing a hybrid war against you, at the very least you also have to respond with hybrid war.

liberals are engaged in a global struggle for the survival of liberalism, one that transcends national borders, and if we retake control of the strongest military on earth it is our moral responsibility to use it for the good of liberalism

Remember Prop 36? Which promised to "help everyone come indoors" through longer prison sentences and drug treatments?

Guess how many people completed the drug treatment in the first 6 months!

Did you guess... 25?

It’s even worse. It’s reversing 400 years of Anglo-American constitutional development going back to Charles I’s personal rule when he refused to consult Parliament over spending and governance. Trump and his GOP lackeys are undoing stuff the Founders saw as fundamental to our system.

We are living through the most consequential shift in the constitutional government of the United States in over a hundred and fifty years and nobody seems to have even noticed yet.

We cannot allow an American Gestapo to become normalized.
unraveledpress.com
Thinking about how much of their violence has been normalized already, how scenes that caused shockwaves 6 weeks ago are now part of the rhythm of daily life. Watched a TikTok from a daughter who has to do her parents' laundry & get their groceries because they're in hiding. This is just it now

Amazing win here. This bill was reportedly under a veto threat, but Streets for all and Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE, not on Bluesky yet) organized a big pressure campaign.

Congratulations to everyone involved!

Also, need an institutional supermajority which died in 1994 (and was barely zombified in 2006-2010).

We will need more irregular law-like processes. State laws, lawsuits and legislators will need to suffice where applicable (blue states). Elsewhere, even more irregular, innovative, imaginative.
kjephd.bsky.social
I might suggest the term "irregular" rather than illiberal for some of this stuff. Like, Trump will never be removed or held accountable for his crimes according to the regular constitutional means because impeachment is broken & Trump v US. But some irregular law-like process might be improvised.

This case, in which the Texas Republican Party wants to abolish the open primary for their own primary voters, should be interesting to watch, not least for challenging how states can regulate political parties' nomination processes:

Even in the United States, the base of our nominal geographic breadth is a few states on either coast and several urban cores in between. It’s the political movement ties between these geopolitical concentrations which matters most.

one thing that has been obvious for a while is this aspect of the authoritarian internationale: they recognize that their allies abroad are not *countries* but *political movements* within foreign countries.

time we liberals woke up and recognized this--because it's the truth.

Or maybe, just maybe, what was obvious in 2024 was correct: Netanyahu fully backed Trump and would not deal with Biden because Trump would give him a free hand to escalate the starvation, bombing, and do full ethnic cleansing. Which he then did, until Netanyahu embarrassed him by bombing Qatar.

the two types of racist are food racist and sex racist. all racists fall into these two categories. hitler? sex racist. mussolini? food racist.

stephen miller? sex racist. jd vance? food racist.

despite being racist about food sometimes, donald trump is a sex racist
