Oh wow!

Many of the academic critiques of the IAT make use of public data from... Project Implicit! And, the databases offer the richest set of *self-report* data on intergroup bias in existence. One can certainly be critical of scholarship on implicit bias and still see the benefits of this resource πŸ₯³

Thanks, Jin!
Have you used Project Implicit for class demo or research? I know I have. Project Implicit fundamentally changed social psych research and public discourse. Its impact is too big to write in one post. But all this work is in jeopardy, so pls join me in donating to sustain Project Implicit!!
Project Implicit is facing an existential threat. After almost 30 years, 60 million visitors, and hundreds of published papers, funding for our work has disappeared.

We’ve never held a fundraising drive before, but we need your support to keep our site running. Please consider donating! πŸ™
Project Implicit is a research nonprofit behind tools millions use to understand bias. Like many public science orgs, sustaining this work has become increasingly difficult. We are at risk of closing without additional support.

Please consider a donation sustain this critical service for research and education about implicit social cognition. The website has generated very useful data and discussion to understand the strengths, weaknesses, and processes of implicit measurement.

Anyone in Pittsburgh want to weigh in on whether the Science Center or Museum of Natural History would be more fun for two grownups (ish) and an 8yo and 11yo? Going to lunch with family and a Pens game in the evening so only time for one or the other.
New paper in press at JPSP! An adversarial collaboration focusing on a large-scale test of how strongly implicit racial attitudes predict discriminatory behavior. Pre-print here: osf.io/preprints/ps...

These responses are so helpful and interesting. Thank you all... and keep them coming!
Social psych friends, please help me out with a class discussion by responding to the following (and sharing):

What do you see as the biggest challenge for social and personality psychology in the immediate future? What should we as a field be doing better than we are now?

Yes! We're going talk about what people in the field see as the biggest challenges and then we're going to dream up some solutions. It's a really, really great group of undergrads in this (advanced research methods) course.

Excellent choice!
I really hate it when scientists keep saying that β€œwe need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

Clean blankets and sleeping bags are desperately needed at the 100 Victoria Street North encampment in Kitchener. Please drop off donations at the table at the front of the encampment.

Okay but only if we define stuck as β€œsitting next to the wall while the men throw up their hands as if they couldn’t possibly bend down and pick it up with minimal effort” πŸ˜‚

They are not the same.

East of Eden is the only book I regularly re-read!

God I wish we had Steinbeck right now.

Data are from August. Would be super interesting to see what they look like now!
In a new paper, my colleagues and I set out to demonstrate how method biases can create spurious findings in relationship science, by using a seemingly meaningless scale (e.g., "My relationship has very good Saturn") to predict relationship outcomes. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...

Psych friends: Does anyone have an undergrad lecture (slides, notes, activities) on theory-building and/or generating hypotheses? If so, willing to share?

The longer you look at it the more absurdist it gets πŸ˜‚

Dear Canadians: Where is this β€œthe cottage” that all of you are going to next week and how do I get there?

I can, Max. Send me an email to remind me? Having read a few Dutch letters, this is a good idea πŸ˜‚

My 10yo is reading it now and loves it! And also thinks it’s super cool we live in the same town.
