I get the point that's trying to be made here, but it's actually inaccurate. The *MAJORITY* of actual practitioners in the tech industry have a position that is neither of these, it's merely getting drowned out by these two loud positions. The most common belief in the tech industry is simple:
There are basically only two positions in the debate about AI.
1. I’ve barely invested any time in learning how to use it effectively. AI sucks.
2. I’ve invested in learning how to use this tool. Holy cow, it’s transformational.

Position #1 has lower barriers to entry.

What The Hell Is Going On, a thread:

I’ve seen some thinkpieces and posts about Portland protests that fail to understand the long-term hyperspecificity of Portland culture/humor, and frame it as a sort of shitposting meme-pilled ironic thing. Which is wrong.

So I’m gonna give you my breakdown.

that johnson is more terrified of seating a duly elected democrat who could force an epstein vote than having the entire government shut down really makes me wonder about that epstein vote tbh

When I turned 30 I had not yet written my first published book or my first published novel and did not know (or know of) some of the most important people in my life. I didn't know how much my life could still change, and did, after the age of 30. There is so much your life still yet to live.
Those who are 35+, what advice do you have for people just entering their 30s?

You may have heard my arguments against the Electoral College before. Here’s a new one the Founders never anticipated:

If the President is elected by popular vote, he probably wouldn’t selectively punish entire states for voting against him.

Oregon is set to lose an additional $400 million in federal grants awarded for climate action and is among more than a dozen Democratic states losing federal funding after the Trump administration terminated nearly $8 billion for those states this week.

i don’t think he was supposed to post this. this is a company lobbying for medical cannabis, specifically for medicare coverage of it, and i think they made a whole commercial for an audience of one. “YOU will…” “cementing YOUR legacy,” millions will

If you are grieving this hate merchant today, you are every conman’s mark.

I can guarantee that you will find yourself forever bewildered at how everyone you’re surrounded with takes advantage of you.

But don’t worry, at least you hate the same people, which makes it all okay, doesn’t it?

Hard to argue that 9/11 wasn’t vastly more successful than the perpetrators could possibly have dreamed. Easy to draw a straight line from that single event to the fall of American democracy we are witnessing.
Trump is uniquely degenerate as an individual, but I think when the historians are writing about this in a few centuries, they'll focus on the collapse of Congressional functionality from the 1990s onward and the growth of the security state post 9/11 as the primary motive forces behind the crisis.
just formalizing a big part of Our Current Crisis, the utter collapse of Congress as an institution

the H1-B thing seems unlikely to withstand a court challenge, but it's still deeply funny that it's basically a nuclear warhead aimed at businesses and executives who've been grandiosely and publicly kissing his fucking ass for nine months

Latest article for @ForeignAffairs The US can no longer be considered a friend of democracy, as such the existing democratic states need to think strategically about protecting themselves and even starting a fightback. There is no point in pretending everything will be ok.
“There is a seeming logic behind Trump’s decision to turn away from democratic states and toward dictatorial ones: a desire to establish three spheres of influence that encompass most of the world,” writes Phillips O’Brien.
