Hi there #Newskies! I'm Abbie, a museum person and former astronomer. I skeet about #altAc, science literacy, #sciComm, astro/physics, #academicMom / #Momademia, #AcademicMentalHealth, Michigan #MIpol, science shitposting (shitskeeting?), gardening, knitting, and whatever the fuck else I want!

Can confirm, Abbie is the right amount of silly

It's unclear to me if adults (specifically, ladies like me in their mid to late 30s) are less serious now than they were when I was a teenager, or if I am just a fundamentally less serious person than my peers.

(I'm not unserious, just less serious. Appropriately serious but also a silly goose.)

a high armhole allows for freer and more comfortable movement
Joey Mannarino in a dark brown tailored jacket. The low armhole is causing his jacket to lift. Someone in an inflatable frog costume. The high armhole allows them to raise their arm without disturbing the rest of the garment

The craziest thing I’m chasing down: I don’t believe that stargate abilene has even close to enough power, nor is it possible for them to build it before the year 2027. They have a 200mw substation and an unfinished 350mw gas turbine plant.

They need 1GW+ and it’s still in the design phase!

Based on every conversation @matthewhughes.bsky.social and I have had and our research it genuinely seems there’s that Abilene - if it ever gets built - may not have much more than 50% power until 2027 at the earliest, if not longer, and they’re going to rely on an expensive fracked gas generator

Yes, 7ft shirtless bronze man will be a colleague. Quiet, but popular.

You say this, but I've only ever been on smaller instances (scholar.social, scicomm.xyz, cooler.mom, and mastodon.lol [rip]), and still encounter too many Reply Guys. I think it's literally just the type of people most likely to find Mastodon enjoyable.

I will go outside and yell my thoughts at random birds before I go to mastodon

Do not. I'll start a goddamned wordpress before I go back to that shithole platform.

My mentions are still a radioactive cesspit YEARS after I told them all about the fuckin whiteness of their social media ecosystem.

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

If anyone from the UN wants to talk, here’s a nice summary. The astronomy community does NOT endorse this proposal, just take it from one of THE EXPERTS on ISOs with Rubin. Meg (and many others) has helped the community plan for +10yrs for these kinds of studies.

I'll for global coordination for ISO follow-up, but it's telling that no one who's actually coordinating follow-up was actually asked to participate in this proposal or thought of to be even suggested as names on committees in this proposal
