...and less than 24 hours later Condé Nast has fired Lex and the rest of the Teen Vogue political desk, even as stories like this were bringing huge numbers of readers to the site
dissatisfied by the New York Times coverage of Zohran Mamdani?

great news! I talked to the guy Thursday about his campaign’s success at bringing community together beyond this election, and contextualized how it’s potentially shifted youth engagement with politics by simply listening @teenvogue.com
Zohran Mamdani's Establishment-Fighting Campaign Built Community for Young People
“What Mamdani has done is not only inspire and mobilize young people, but he has exposed the establishment and some of their calcified views of participation and inclusion.”

In addition to holiday travelers, this would also include all air shipping just before Christmas.

Which would pretty much kill Amazon dead.

Please proceed.

The people Teen Vogue fired today are the exact people who made is such a relevant and important publication these past few years.

I hope they band together and create a new outlet.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

Stories like this make me hate my line of work sometimes because you think "okay surely these major multibillion dollar companies couldn't be that poorly run" but no, they are, and that's why you stay employed as a cybersecurity researcher and consultant

Shortly after the 2020 Solarwinds breach I was taken on a tour to check out a certain company's network infrastructure and the breach got brought up and the company rep said to us, with his whole chest, "Oh, yeah, our solarwinds deployment was so out of date that we weren't impacted"
the password to the louvre surveillance server was "louvre"

Polling on DC is more mixed, but Puerto Rico statehood is objectively popular! Consistently high 50s or 60s. It was an official GOP platform plank for decades until just last year. Also until last year, Puerto Rico's non-voting House member was a pro-statehood Republican. She's now the governor.
Johnson: "If they had no filibuster, they would pack the SCOTUS. You'd go from 9 to 17 or however many liberals they could pack. You would make DC & Puerto Rico into states, which would give 4 additional Democrat senators & make us a permanent minority. You'd see massive restrictions of 2A rights"

In the offline world, at least, I am certainly much more guarded these days.

I learned the hard way exactly how much social and political capital you expend just by being a woman with opinions and a voice.

And I hate to say it, but I budget that capital, now.
This isn’t a dig at Jennifer Lawrence, but the way she’s been talking about herself on her current press tour makes me sad. She basically expresses that having a personality as a young woman in the public eye made her too much, and she doesn’t want to repeat those same mistakes. It’s a little eerie.

ACA = “Obamacare”. Same thing. Its proof that many white folks would rather shoot off their own foot if they knew something helped a black or latino person get by too. Its no different from how they used to fill public pools with cement during integration resulting in everyone being hot & miserable.
America is so racist that some Americans believed SNAP benefits were for white people and food stamps were for black people and they did not know they were the same thing and are now horrified to learn they are losing their food subsidies.

I’ve seen several popular VAs now using AI openly and then scoffing when initially called out (“don’t be scared, this is a good thing”) and then hastily deleting their posts when it becomes clear folks disagree.

So you can imagine, as can I, how many are *quietly* endorsing it to avoid backlash.
You're gonna see some prolific VA talent get in bed with AI in the coming months/years while their less prolific community members lose opportunities across the board due to it.

Some of them don't care.

Some of them are too focused on the bag and the attention to do so.
It takes a CONSIDERABLE lack of self-awareness to take a hard stance against AI generated VO... and then repost the worst AI generated PPG art (What do you even call that? Blosblecup?!) and defend it as "so cute!!"

Saw people from the US say they got spoiled, moldy stuff from food banks; then they got called entitled. I guess poor people are supposed to eat rotten food and be thankful for it?

shifting not just towards regret, but also “i wish democrats were in charge instead” seems notable
Longtime Trump supporter: “I think deep down he wants to help the country with things like food insecurity.”

(Trump enacted the largest cuts to SNAP in history a few months ago)

Now says she regrets voting for Trump and wishes a Democrat were president to “protect benefits [Trump] wants to cut.”

Andrew Cuomo has PERSONAL WEALTH IN THE MILLIONS.

Zohran Mamdani is NOT personally a millionaire.

Hope this helps.

1. The anti-trans panic is losing steam, at least when it comes to elections.

New polls in battleground races in Virginia and New Jersey show voters prefer Democrats to Republicans on trans issues by double digits.

This as centrist groups urge capitulation.

New Poll: Voters Prefer Democratic Candidates Approach To Trans Rights Over Republicans
A new poll, which surveys voters who will partake in the New Jersey and Virginia governor races, found that voters were not impressed with Republican anti-trans positions.

I can’t emphasize enough right now that the millionaires tax in Massachusetts has allowed public schools to provide free lunch and breakfast for all students. We can take their money and do good things with it!

Trump pushing to end the filibuster is a REAL problem for Johnson. The filibuster is what let's the House off the hook when their base firing bullshit, that they know will be massively unpopular, fails in the Senate.
But now that same base is going to start clamoring to end the filibuster.

Very weird to see the president dismantling rule of law and free trade while picking winners and losers in the market, and have a public freakout over a mayoral candidate proposing free busses.

If it doesn't work, and spends a lot of money for little benefit, reverse the bus policy. Not a big deal.
Another abominable editorial from the Wash Post

Understandable why grocery stores might be scared off. A store caught violating the prohibition could be denied ability to accept SNAP benefits in the future. In low-inc areas where SNAP shutdown will have biggest impact, getting thrown off SNAP could mean a store is no longer financially viable.
