What's a smart scale? Should you use one? What do you need to know about your body composition besides your weight? APS member Austin Robinson (@ausrob-phd.bsky.social) weighed in 😜 on the subject. Read more from @NBCNews: ow.ly/sKMo50WQuEz #ISpyPhysiology 🧪

Was going to be a part of a special issue proposal for J Physiol but Wiley $5k open access fees are too much for me. Kudos to @apspublications.bsky.social for their $995 APC cost for members in most journals, plus making Subscribe to Open Target so all papers open access this yr.

The NRA buys off Congress. No action on guns.

The oil industry buys off Congress. No action on climate.

Insurance companies buy off Congress. No action on health care.

The list goes on and on.

Money in politics is the root of our dysfunction.

Any who can afford it, please pitch in 🙏 A lot of the grants that funded ABRCMS have been cancelled. These $100 awards make a huge impact for students. If every judge gave just $20, we’d exceed the goal.

🧂Our controlled feeding pilot trial suggests potential sex differences in kidney responses to dietary salt. With a high salt diet, females may increase endothelin-1 excretion more. Endothelin-1 is a potent vasoconstrictor peptide and promotes salt excretion by the kidneys.

Trump hasn’t simply been using federal research funds as leverage against individual institutions. He’s also been wrecking the entire government apparatus for supporting scientific research.

HHS X account is tweeting that beef tallow fried potatoes are healthier than seed oil fried potatoes bc of handwavey mechanistic rationale based on the presence of oxidized lipid products & zero data with human health outcomes. Bonus points for shoehorned 1990s oxidative stress theories of disease.

The CEO of a a multi-trillion dollar company went to the White House, openly handed the US president a gift made of gold, and his company got a special exemption to tariffs the president has illegally imposed.

Also, the Founders took bribery so seriously the Constitution bans it 3 separate times.

Unfollow health and wellness influencers who regularly invoke that the products they sell are science-based, yet haven't used their large platforms to raise awareness about the proposed NIH/NSF budget cuts.

I doubt that there is a single family in America that hasn’t benefitted directly from the NIH.

This conflation has irked me for years. People seem to think DEI and health disparities are synonymous. While DEI efforts may help with issues such as wealth inequality & educational attainment, which may help shrink health disparities in the long run, these are essentially two separate issues!

First copies of my book are here!! As a new faculty member, I realized that in addition to my research job, I also had a leadership job…and I wasn’t prepared for that.

This book is the guide I wish I’d had then, with the goal of helping others now.

Another outstanding thread by Dr. Berg.

NYT article from last week also illustrated just how arbitrary the DEI cuts are as well.

Weird, most celebs and influencers with supplement codes and a nice script about the importance of good nutrition seems to be quiet on the cutting of SNAP and Medicaid.
