Definitely DO NOT outsource the reading/summarization of the legal contract to which you will be bound to a pattern matching program that can AND DOES willfully create misinformation when its algorithm tells it the misinformation is the statistically mostly likely next set of words.

May you always feel safe and warm, may your tea supply never run dry, and may you always find more space on your crowded bookshelves for books that you cannot live without.

Behold: the first-ever list of news outlets that have banned generative AI in their reporting. As of today, this is literally information that you cannot find on Google.

My goal is to fill the starter pack, so please send over suggestions with supporting evidence!

I’m working on a report about data centers in Illinois and remembered this resource that gathers redlining maps from across the USA in case anybody else might find the resource useful for similar (or other) projects:

My boss left 20min ago and my co-workers have already started a fight club. They're trying to get staff to tell them which of them would win in a fight and to place bets. Today the patrons are worried about us!

Absolutely this!
suspect a big reason why many academics and others who work in areas where getting facts RIGHT is key are disinterested in using LLMs for research:

they’ve tried it, they keep noticing major errors in output, and they conclude that having to verify all that doesn’t actually save them time.

genAI is STOLEN WORK. Using genAI in *any* capacity is trafficking in stolen work, supporting the plunder. Period. These facts aren't even denied by the AI companies, they just find ways to make that plunder seem benevolent. Using their product enables that lie. Stop enabling the theft of our work.
"we only use AI for coming up with ideas" no you don't. you use AI to come up with the a bland version of other people's ideas. there is currently NOBODY more replaceable than you

This has got to stop!
Closing out my year with a journal editor shocker 🧵

Checking new manuscripts today I reviewed a paper attributing 2 papers to me I did not write. A daft thing for an author to do of course. But intrigued I web searched up one of the titles and that's when it got real weird...

The brain wants fibery goodness. Do I
1) keep knitting on the soft twinkly socks- needs some brain
2) warp up the rainbow of silk threads for a diamond tablet belt- needs LOTS of brain
3) make more hats- barely needs consciousness
To add to the difficulty level, I have a cold.

I keep wanting to say something, and I keep not knowing what to say.

The trans community does not harm cis people by existing. They are just trying to live their lives, same as anyone else. That life doesn't look exactly like mine; my life doesn't match anyone else's. That's okay.

Absolute bullshit, and authors, if Harlequin has your foreign rights, you should also complain.
French publishing house Harlequin decided to use AI translation instead of human translations.

All their freelance translators (some of whom had been working with Harlequin for +30y!!!) were told they would no longer receive work from Harlequin

All of this. Be extremely wary of those words. They’re part of the reason I withdrew a story from a dream market this year.
If you see the words 'irrevocable', 'in perpetuity', 'formats not yet invented', 'net after costs', 'all rights', you're selling every damn thing you could make money from as an author for a one time payment, or in this case, a promise.

Signing this gives the publisher money meant for you forever.
Behold, if you will, the...astonishing...contract from Shadow Light Press. A rolling 10-year term...payment on profit (but only after costs are recouped)...appropriation of the author's universe if they can't continue the series...and more www.reddit.com/r/Progressio...
