Everything about the shooting at Brown is horrific & should make America ashamed of the slaughterhouse we’ve become. But I’m especially holding in my heart the parents who were eagerly planning for their kids to get home for break. Getting them holiday gifts. Planning to cook their favorite meals.

It’s a fascinating juxtaposition of two versions of Christianity on display in the US right now.

Christmas songs have some of the best lines in all hymnody.

• A weary world rejoices
• Chains shall he break, for the slave is our brother
• The hopes and fears of all the years are met in Thee tonight
• God is not dead, nor does he sleep

What’re your favorites?

Folks might not know a lot of people are getting *very* upset that the materials they request are not available in the libraries/archives they're requesting from.

We're getting lots here at the Library of Virginia: requests of documents likely surfaced by large language models that *do not exist*.

In the tenth century a charm to control a bee swarm was added, upside down, in the margin of an earlier mss. It's one of the earliest Old High German texts. Tim Hertogh argues in recent article it was intended as an amulet to cut out & place in a hive - explaining the margins excised elsewhere.👇
