It's hard to help Americans left behind because so much of US identity is rooted in individualism. The average American conservative holds all three positions at once:

— Virtue signals about supporting US manufacturing
— Against raising the minimum wage
— Buys foreign imports because they're cheap
HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "I'm willing to pay more for quality products if they are made in America, by Americans, who are paid a decent income." The tweet shows Norman Rockwell's "Freedom of Speech" painting, which is often used to show the tweeter is expressing a brave opinion. HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "MINIMUM WAGE JOBS WERE NOT MEANT TO BE A CAREER. Why does no one understand this? Entry level jobs are STEPPING STONES to better jobs. No one wants to work towards that though." HardPass4 on Twitter tweets: "Buy $5 gloves instead of $50 ones. Trust me." The tweet shows a box of "Gorilla Grip" gloves. The label on Gorilla Grip gloves show they're made in China.

For some reason I've found a lot of comfort in imagining him taunted relentlessly by the ghost of, specifically, Richard Nixon

I'm just a humble Tacoman but I presume to agree that Seattle needs public restrooms slightly more than an eldritch wall of AI necromancy

Bathrooms, Bruce. Bathrooms are needed, not slop versions of historical figures

"Dr. King, I've always admired your dedication to the cause of civil rights and social justice. Anyway, is there anywhere in a six-block radius of this magic AI wall where I can pee without having to buy something first?"
cldek.bsky.social
Absolutely not. Bruce, stop this right now I swear to god

Downtown could have "like, a 10-foot wall" where people could talk to AI versions of historical figures. "How cool would this be if we had like, a 10 foot wall. It's interactive and it's historical. And you could talk to Martin Luther King."...

I will personally raise a kaiju that will raze the city and obliterate its memory if this comes to pass
cldek.bsky.social
No.

Like every mayor before him, Harrell wants arts and culture events downtown. The difference is that "you're going to see a lot of AI in it."

Haha I fell into that same trap! I watched Toxic Crusaders as a kid so I just assumed the movie was similar but with lots of cartoony ultraviolence. Oops! I mean, that's not *in*accurate; the ultraviolence was cartoony, but the Vibes were Different

I would say it's the *contents* of the Polaroids that bothers me more there, but personally if I'd had a kid with me I don't think we would've gotten that far because I would've peaced out around the first head-crushed-under-the-wheels-of-a-muscle-car

The original. We were going to do a double feature but will find another time to check out the remake

Oh boy yeah I might've scooted out a few atrocities earlier, if I had a fourth grader with me
cldek.bsky.social
That was probably a good move parenting-wise

I can see why it's a classic—much to ponder.

For those not fluent in Catholic: refusing the Monstrance is not denying prisoners the Eucharist, it is refusing Christ himself, since Christ is present in the Monstrance.

If Portland’s blow up animals are the right language for Portland, this is the right language for Chicago.

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

I believe it was called Toxic Avenger, and I am having some grad-school-ass reactions as I process it now that it's though. My brain forming thoughts like "it resists complication" like it's 2006 and I'm flailing my way through a doomed seminar paper for a class I didn't understand

"Father forgive the ones who do not know what they are doing."
Holy holy smoke he is comparing ICE to the people who crucified Jesus.
Maga heads (who know their verses) are going to blow up.

This is the actual reason I won't watch that movie. I am: Weak

You have to have politics that aren’t just “fuck you, mom and dad” or else you’re going to have a bad read on how politics works, but many fail this simple test

I do, but I also write checks to pay bills and send monetary gifts to younger relatives, so I'm not going to claim to be representative of the zeitgeist
