The Sonya Massey Commission was formed after its namesake was murdered by a police officer in Springfield, Illinois. Among other things, the group debated proposals for deploying unarmed mental health workers instead of police in certain cases.
A Police Killing Drew National Protests. At Home, a Commission Struggles with How to Make a Difference.
More than a year after Sonya Massey was killed by police in Illinois, a namesake commission has wrestled over changes that would prevent future tragedies.

I live in Illinois and had to provide my birthday last week which surprised me because I don't live in Australia, Ohio, or Mississippi. This happened when trying to use the app and via web.

I wondered why I didn't see many complaints.

Now I wonder how many accounts @bsky.app broke?
Hey, who knows how to fix this age verification issue? @thetriibe.com (Black-owned indy news in Chicago) are locked out of their account and need to publish this week's stories. @thetriibe.bsky.social

They are verified by Bluesky and everything!
Upon logging in last week, randomly got an "age" verification message but with no further steps on the process. We logged out and tried to log back in. And haven't been able to log back in since. Even tried "forgot password," but never receive the email to go through that process either.

I swear Zaslov broke people with his bullshit of shelving content, but if you read the replies it's possible a exclusivity period finally expired.

If true, I hope seasons 4 and 5 finally see a dvd release in the US.
‘She-Ra and the Princesses of Power’ is scheduled to leave Netflix on February 21, 2026.

Won't miss ya Dick Durbin.
28 Democrats voted yes on a bill that motherfucking TED CRUZ voted no on. It could not have passed without those 28 so check the list and if one of your senators is on it don't forget to write or call to tell them they're a bigot and a quisling and worse. Than. TED. FUCKING. CRUZ.
Here are the 28 Dem Senators who voted to advance the first federal ban on trans athletes & a federal definition of sex that would make trans & intersex people non-existent: Angela Alsobrooks (MD), Tammy Baldwin (WI), Richard Blumenthal (CT), Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE), Chris Coons (DE), ->

So many well-paid and well-known analysts and reporters somehow still don’t grasp that all those drone pilots in Ukraine are on the front lines and are constantly in extreme danger, not sitting in a climate-controlled trailer 1000 miles away from the action
Software doesn’t hold ground.

waiting for my TV show based on Leia: Princess of Alderan by Claudia Gray where Leia and Amylin Holdo become besties while doing mountain climbing and light rebellion work, would watch 15 seasons
On the anniversary of the release of Star Wars: Lavender Menace, the world is still waiting on the extensive backstory, rise to power, and romantic comedy adventures of high femme Amylin Holdo.

We are going to see some devastating commentary about people living with addiction coming up re: Reiner's son.

You don't know anyone's story. Addiction is cruel and horrible and A LOT of warriors battle it daily.

Condemn the violence, 10000%.
Lament the disease, maybe.

"I Am The Night" is great because it's essentially Batman making peace with the idea that he's in an eternal superhero story and that the only option he has to is to keep fighting an impossible war forever.
Batman: The Animated Series made its Fox Sunday prime-time debut on this day (Dec. 13) in 1992 with "I Am The Night." Seeking to boost its Sunday night viewership, and noting the acclaimed cartoon's superb daytime ratings, Fox gave BTAS a swing in primetime! #BatmanTAS #Batman

The ACA isn't just "health care for people who don't have a conventional employer." It also disallows something that was incredibly common 20 years ago, which I fear is getting lost to generational memory: insurance companies could deny you health care for essentially any previous health problem.
I'm dubious about Amazon's commitment to keeping pre-existing conditions a thing of the past.

And now I'm going to have a cry. I'm old enough that Meathead was my introduction to Reiner.

I watched the All in the Family Thanksgiving episode last month which was a great episode.

In the US, some seasons of All in the Family are on Tubi and Pluto.
Mel Brooks having to bury Rob Reiner is against all laws of nature and I’m not ok about it

Watching a Microsoft copilot ad before Netflix's Wake up Dead Man.

The protagonist should already know the context of what she's using copilot for.

Utilizing "AI" in this ad is a perfect example of someone who's using something managers want to replace workers with.

Not the point of the ad I know

Oh no. I'm served by a voluntary fire department.

Fun fact, this is a factor in the pricing of homeowners insurance.
Volunteer fire departments make up 85% of the departments in the country and private equity firms are gouging them on software that helps them, uh, do firefighting.
Private equity has found a new source of profit: volunteer fire departments.

Working in Enterprise IT, where Oracle is a player due to decades of acquisition, I'm quite curious how things shake out in the next 2 to 5 years.

Oh, okay, it's really because I can't stand Larry Ellison. I want him to flail.
I never thought I’d say this, but I genuinely wonder if Oracle could die! One of the few true bailout targets I’d humor. They’re doing $248bn of lease deals while spending $12bn in capex a quarter, negative cash flow too. Nasty stuff

Assuming these are all real.

Some of these situations were potentially tragic and if I ran an animal adoption agency you would never be allowed to adopt.

You do not put animals in the position of potential carnage or punishment for resource guarding.
