If I controlled a bunch of PAC money I'd be running testimonials with sympathetic victims of ICE in Minneapolis as 30 second spots during, I dunno, NFL games and the like.

Instead of Share Our Wealth, it would be Hoard Our Wealth: no more “welfare abuse”, no more affirmative action, no more welfare for the “underclass”, but “more prisons”, an end to busing, and the death penalty for drug dealers.

Today basically every American politician will post about MLK on this app.

Very VERY few of them will connect it to anything happening in the country right now.

koizumi jr aside like, how do you treat the contemporary US as a serious security guarantor that won't turn into a gangster?
i wonder what Tokyo does if the EU and the US get into an economic war over Greenland

apparently denmark is not one of the countries where your own party will invite their leader to give a speech in the senate about how the sitting president is a piece of shit and he ought to be removed from power
if we do not push Chuck Schumer out of power, he will not just meekly submit to the right until they put him in the camps, he will blow up NATO as well
The incredibly lukewarm Democratic response on Greenland is being noticed in Europe, incidentally.

Chuck Schumer not finding a stronger word than “quixotic” for Trump’s plan to seize Greenland has been name checked to me more than once.

The President of the United States is incontrovertibly mentally unwell and wants to make war. The Prime Minister of Norway has confirmed that he received this letter.

It seems to me that several things must happen, preferably as soon as possible. 1/3
Not the sort of letter committed to paper by a well man. "Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace"

George R.R. Martin has said that if he never completes Game of Thrones sequel Winds of Winter (or the book after that), there's no plan for anyone else to step in. Instead, his Song of Ice and Fire series simply "won't be finished."

Misinformed?

It was an anti-US deployment! That was the entire point!

What does "clarification of the nature" even mean?

"Oh no sorry Mr Trump they're just in holiday, they like the snow"?

also an aside, a partisan political attack on our democracy was never going to have a non-partisan legalist solution, its a fundamentally a political problem
the theory behind the "investigation" of donald trump was that an event which had never before happened and which the entire conservative legal movement existed to prevent (the prosecution of a republican president for a crime) would occur mechanically by operation of law, without biden's approval.
Yep. Showing vigor and resolve, and also demonstrating that he was as bad as Biden and co said. Because if you're dumb, you might work backwards from what happened to "oh they were bullshitting, if he was really that bad he'd be in jail"

My brother in America can't believe what I paid for my bicycle accident a few years ago.
Hello yes sorry I know we’re not supposed to take photos inside the hospital but I just need to snap a quick one of this perfectly normal medical bill cuz see I’m American (don’t tell anyone.)

I hate to put it in these terms, but it happens to be true: our country's security rests on completely destroying the Republican party

Yup. There needs to be a guarantee that this will never happen again. A *guarantee*. By whatever means necessary.
The only mechanism Democrats will have for regaining the US's diplomatic standing with Europe is take take extreme measures against the Republican party. They will never trust us again unless they think the Republican party in its current form is dead.

specifically people are angry with Sanders because he's supposed to be one of the more reasonable ones, but his tone-deaf "ah hah Denmark actually has better social policies!!!" skeet in the face of the collapse of the geopolitical order implies someone who is not taking this entirely seriously

no-one is saying that Americans are unaware that things are crazy. the point is that quite a lot of American pundits seem to be treating Greenland as a standard Trump escalation or distraction which can be easily moved on from or undone, and it's important to understand why that isn't the case
I am not here for Europeans telling me Americans don't know how crazy things are. The Nazis are killing people over here at the moment so we're busy but thanks for the input. I had hoped for solidarity but I suppose I'll have to settle for sneering condescension instead.

“Like the boycotters in Montgomery, this is not part of some grand design, something worked out well in advance by a disciplined organization. This is something that ordinary people have taken it upon themselves to do”

some real “we’re the ones we’ve been waiting for” energy. absolutely correct.
“Today, almost 58 years after MLK was murdered, more than 97 years after he was born, and as we approach the 250th anniversary of our founding, ordinary Americans are coming together again to protect our way of life. Many of us have organized towards that end, and more of us are doing so every day.”
We Have Organized, and More Must Do So
Minneapolis has shown us the path.
