Begging people to shut the goddamn fuck up about paywalls on independent media.

Matt's gotta eat, you have a choice whether you want to spend $7 to read one of the 100s of great articles he has written or commissioned.

If you don't got it, it's not his fault.

Same for every newsletter.
I get it. Nobody has enough money to pay for every paywalled thing they want to read.

But there is no way to write about what I write about, at the *scale* I write about it, and pay all of our bills just with ad revenue. Paywalls, for us, are necessary. You all wouldn't like the alternative.

HOOOOOO boy.

Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-N.J.): "Do you consider yourself a religious man?"

Lyons: "Yes ma'am."

McIver: "How do you think Judgement Day will work for you with so much blood on your hands?"

"Do you think you're going to hell, Mr. Lyons?"

Amber Glenn won Olympic gold on Sunday. That same day, she left social media because of death threats. Her offense: she'd told reporters the queer community is going through "a hard time." The headline called it "backlash." www.readtpa.com/p/the-thresh...
The Threshold
The right used to attack athletes who protested. Now they attack athletes who express feelings at all.

Five days ago, Montana head coach Bobby Hauck announced he was retiring from coaching because it was "not enjoyable." Today he was named Illinois' defensive coordinator.

Opiates get you because of the lifestyle opiate addiction forces someone into. Alcohol gets you because it's so damn toxic
that really is the thing about alcohol, like opioids aren't that hard on you (except for constipation), you can be a heroin junkie for 20 years and be alright if you can quit, but booze fuckin *wrecks* every organ system

this was way more prevalent when i was still on tiktok but it feels like people are getting really weird about alcohol, coffee, anything that might make you happy--even in innocuous amounts! feels like we're re-engineering puritanism as a method of maintaining control (over ourselves, each other)
starting to feel like there's a direct relationship between the growing obsession with lifestyle hygeine (no drinking, no caffeine, no sex, obsessive working out and looksmaxxing) and the inability to meaningful moral stands on issues of actual import
Cafes across the U.S. are embracing the low- and no-caffeine lifestyle, with options that are a far cry from dusty tea bags and rewarmed decaf. nyti.ms/3XKlqoj

less alcohol consumption is probably good, i am less thrilled about the idea that social drinking seems to be reducing and replaced with nothing / being online

Last year I traveled all the way to rural Vietnam to officiate a friend's wedding. It was a beautiful ceremony that mixed cultures and language, and was a celebration of the best of humanity.

He just sent me this post and said "this is how you lost the war."
the bushes were people 😂

Woke 1 was asking people to use proper pronouns

Woke 2 will be compelling it
I think "woke" was at least partly identified with "irritating" and the way we're rectifying that in Woke 2 is by being scary instead

to be kind of blunt, if the hardcore veteran activist organizer expertise that you bring results in "light a dumpster on fire, get mad that this is filmed" it's not really expertise anyone should respect, sorry. don't care how many little activism merit badges you have.

i guess, fundamentally, i am just anti-crank. if your position is that normal, everyday people getting out into the streets to protest in the tens of thousands are doing it wrong, you’re a crank, and i assume you believe a lot of other crank shit i don’t care about.

once again these things boil down to “is your group a bohemian cultural identity” or “is your group actually trying to do things?” and the key tell is whether your activity centers on policing of in-group behavior or whether it centers on, again, tangible goals

It's the people who have made being an "activist" their entire personality. It's a straight shot to the ego when Evelyn Normielib and her PTA group organized faster and more effectively then their decade old protest group that's had more SA allegation than successful protests
No offense but if anything MN puts the lie to the idea that popular resistance takes a bunch of time and preparation by established activists who are allegedly quietly building goodwill. Mostly I see those people upset that it's succeeding and trying to gatekeep the normal people out of it

A very minor footnote in the entire story but it's always funny to me that the AP voters took it upon themselves to punish Ole Miss and kept them from what would be their first and only football National Title
Ole Miss 62!
some of the biggest and most violent student protests in U.S. history were *against* integration.

Grassley has always been the awful and I'll be dancing once he kicks it
From Iowa reporter @laurarbelin.bsky.social: we should not ignore the obvious here. Sen. Grassley is well into his 90s. He did indeed make a record of advocacy for whistleblowers earlier in his career, but appears now confused as to what a whistleblower is. One must ask if staff is running him.
New, by me: A must-read NYT Magazine report showed how Senator Chuck Grassley's oversight work as Judiciary Committee chair led to career FBI agents or supervisors being forced out, in some cases with no investigation supporting their alleged wrongdoing.

I think this guy is catching up to his audience is going rather than showing any contrition or leading the way. It's a lagging indicator of support eroding.
It’s frustrating to see the manosphere take so long to come around, especially after people like Schulz were so pivotal to helping get Trump elected. But look, we have to win folks back, and I’m very glad to hear him speaking out. This kind of switch will erode Trump support faster than anything...
