Thank you! It took me... (counts) 9 years since that shady feedback to regain the confidence to resurrect that character and I'm doing it now in a novella which is adult fantasy! Woot! 💜🐺 And he's queer! And I love him!

I'll never forget how a nasty writer at a workshop who -- it was mandatory that everyone had to critique each other's piece on paper -- said of my adult werewolf fantasy novel "Umm, are you suuure this isn't YA?" as an insult. 😒 Bitch lol

You know this if you're an adult fantasy writer having people sneer at your 'YA' book. You know this as a BIPOC writer when people sneer about being 'bored', 'confused' or 'unable to relate/don't care'.

Here's an idea: maybe all books aren't written to please you. Try being open to different ideas.

They say they want new things in fantasy, then authors from marginalized groups do new things, but they don't like that, they want the new thing to be like the old thing except new.

What they really want is a book to rewind time and make them young again, something no book or anything else can do.

Absolutely! When I went, it was before most of my major disabilities had set in yearrs ago, but even then I was overwhelmed and needed to rest often. There's a lot of ground to cover!

I think the first time I went, I was so overwhelmed because I was like "OOH! I want to see this exhibit" and "OOOH but also that one!" I am always a sucker for Ancient Egypt, but also because of my historical research into early American stuff as well, and Canadian, it's interesting!
