omg my hvac system just broke.

It's fine-ish, I'm already getting a rec for repairs.

But seriously. Since September it hasn't even had the decency to be one thing after another, it's many things all at once. All I can do right now is laugh.

Thread.
With this week’s shakeup at the CDC’s vaccine advisory committee, an ivermectin-promoting anti-vax group is well positioned to influence vaccine policy in the U.S.

Both the new chair and the existing vice chair of ACIP have ties to the so-called Independent Medical Alliance.

Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. To celebrate, you should give me and other disabled people stuff. And by stuff I mean money.

It's possible Spouse is in surgery now. I can't be in the hospital with him so no one let me know. So I guess now I wait and hope they let me know when he's out or pick a random time to start calling to find out what's going on.

Ooh, Puzzmo sounds neat.
If you're trying to ditch NYT Games, which you should be since their games singlehandedly prop up the entire dogshit rag financially, you should switch to Puzzmo. An annual sub is 50% off today for a crazy $19 and as a bonus doesn't enable the genocides of Palestinians and trans people
Puzzmo — The (new) place for thoughtful puzzles.
Re-imagined mainstays like the daily Crossword Puzzle, modern classics like Really Bad Chess and SpellTower, and even a few brand new puzzles.

How about we make it so that accessibility is the norm and stop limiting it in any way. We build it in, sometimes literally build, and we accomodate everyone who asks.

Sure, we'd have to treat all people as experts on their own lives and trust them. I know that's a dealbreaker for many.
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

BCS publishes excellent stories. If you can support any magazine this is a great choice.
BCS Patreon has fallen below the monthly amount we need to pay our authors a pro rate and our First Readers a worthy honorarium ($125/mo). Sometimes folks need to lower or pause their support; we understand. But less than 1% of BCS readership donates or supports. www.patreon.com/beneath_ceas... 1/3

Now "browsing" means Netflix compiles your recent watch history and feeds you more of the exact same thing. Or Amazon analyzes your buy history and gives you a list of 15 books with basically the same title. You rarely stumble upon something new or different by chance. It's eroding our curiosity.

Thread.

I attended many creative writing classes and it blows my mind to know this, because in my experience we are always excited to be in that class. That's the class that betters our day.
We're seeing possibly the worst attendance in history. Even in creative writing classes, where students generally want to participate and have their voice heard--they're not showing up, ignoring guidelines and feedback, and either describing expectations as "unclear" or simply refusing to comply.

one insidious thing about gen AI is it's not just causing us to mistrust dodgy images, it's also making us mistrust images that look perfectly normal. this is gaslighting in a very literal sense bc the technology is undermining the trust we have in our own ability to perceive reality!

This is huge

Long Covid has a lot of stigma attached to it and it can be hard to get disability.

You’re told to “try harder”.

It’s “not that bad”.

You can “still work”.

Not everyone can
