This explains something that has always mystified me about drivers who rail against bike lanes and transit. Why WOULDN'T you want people to have options not to drive? It would make your own driving better! But they don't just want good traffic, they want to reinforce the NORM of driving
This is actually quite brilliant, up to and including the final sentence 🔥

speaking as a virginia beach native if these kind of dudes are plotting against ICE then there is wide runway in public opinion for straight up abolishing the agency under a dem presidency

i think it's pretty clear at this point that trump cannot be dissuaded from the idea that asylum simply means that these are insane people from other countries entering ours
The thing about unchecked power is it often makes grave mistakes. One of the reason Putin decided on the folly of war with Ukraine was the lack of those willing to tell him he was making a grave error. I fear @realDonaldTrump will stumble into a war, costing troop’s their lives.

Unironically yes because “socialism” in U.S. politics has always been a racialized, gendered, nationalistic, classed, and contingent construct rather than a stable theory of the appropriate size and scope of government
Universal health care: socialism
Student loan debt relief: socialism
Green energy investment: socialism
Joe Biden: Senile socialist
Barack Obama: Black socialist
Hillary Clinton: Female socialist
Kamala Harris: Black Female socialist

State ownership of US Steel:
Capitalism! Free markets! America!
US Steel has effectively been nationalized (by the political party supposedly fighting American socialism)

I don't care if these monstrous ICE raids are a "federal operation". This is authoritarian violence, plain and simple.

Just because Stephen Miller has kidnapping quotas for brown people he doesn't want to see on the street doesn't mean we have to think it's okay.

Agree w this. But fwiw, I don’t think there are adverse political consequences on this front. And I think I have pretty good antennae for political impact. There’s a pretty broad discomfort w the whole disappearing people w no due process agenda. The escalation from WH is actually the tell on that.
I don't really care what the "political consequences" are of fighting for the proposition that *everyone* is entitled to due process before they are removed from the United States and sent to a Salvadoran prison.

It's not really a principle if you only adhere to it when it's politically expedient.
