My point is not: The US is less racist.
It is also not: France is more racist.
My big takeaway is racism in the US is just... transparent. It's easy to see, because of the legacy of slavery and Black people in this country, the racism is loud.

The thing about being an US born person of immigrant extraction who has also lived in a couple of other countries and traveled to a bunch more is... I can be both very clear eyed in the way the US sucks while also being aware of how other countries use the USA's failings to distract from their own.

It is very easy to look at the US and point to the reams of data about racial disparities.

But like, I do have to wonder about the toll that takes to believe her kid is quirkless for the last ten years, he gets powers enough to get into the top school in the country and then he's getting wrapped up in life or death situations like once a month
I think so cuz I'm Old™ and watched this anime for the first time this summer and as an adult, my first concern was for poor Inko watching her baby destroy himself over and over again

This ten year old I teach piano to walked into his lesson this week and opened with an incredibly racist comment/"joke"
I was so floored I didn't properly organize my response to it for several minutes, at which point I interrupted his playing and said "that comment you made was really unkind"
