I have a very healthy obsession with Star Trek. Pour one out; COVID ruined Earl Grey for me. Longer form on Star Trek: https://angel-two.ghost.io/

Finally! This took longer than you might expect to write, but it's done. I'm going to try to not edit it now (unless there's spelling mistakes).

On Orion slave women, misogyny and hyperadrenalism, including having to watch the episode again!

This is Bound to raise my blood pressure.
Enterprise, or by the episode in question, Star Trek: Enterprise, was certainly one of the shows within the Trek canon of all time. It started out trying to appeal to a different section of the 18-34...

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

Suzanne Moore, who would rather be locked up than pay her BBC licence fee because the BBC is too nice to trans people for her liking.
That Moore and her ilk think the BBC is too pro-trans hints at what they would prefer for trans people more broadly.

If disabled women are women, why don't we just say 'women'?
World's worst gotcha from Trevor Phillips: "If trans women are women why don't we just say 'women'... who needs 'pregnant people?'" 🤔
Great to see @zackpolanski.bsky.social on @skynewsrss.bsky.social this morning standing up for trans people.

It’s clear that Trevor Phillips was trying to trap Zack by not giving him all the facts! Martine Croxall not only eye rolled, she changed a direct quote - unethical for a journalist!
Insomnia is apparently fated to be my permanent earworm. At least it's a banger in every interpretation.
Popped into Coventry cathedral for a nosey and caught the sound check for tonight’s gig, classical Ibiza.

the best thing that we can do in this AI-slop-filled, influencer culture, fascist era is keep it real.

make art. be authentic. lead with joy. tell the truth. we win.
My parents-in-law grew up in Poland under communism. This is why (partly, at least!) I take great care to call myself an anarcho-communist. Or anarcho-socialist. One day I might settle. But anyway! Those ~40 years cast a long shadow on the Soviet bloc for a reason.
Scrolling Treksky and someone who really wants to be a meme account used that new art theft engine to make a Trek video. It's like cheering on whatever will lead to World War III
Is that why Effective Altruism is a thing that exists in ultra-wealthy tech circles now?

Picard responsibility tip: Don't leave known, wide-scale problems behind for the next generation to solve.
A list of reasons to put me in charge of Star Trek:

- I think I'm fucking hilarious
- I'm Scottish
- I'd make Trek far more gay

- I'm funny
- I'm not MAGA
- I would promote Harry Kim canonically

Paramount has officially stopped work on the next Kelvin Timeline movie. The studio announced that it will not bring back Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, or any of the other actors from the reboot. #chrispine #Kelvintimeline #StarTrek #ZacharyQuinto
I think it warrants a "Yes, Ma'am!"?
I'm old enough to remember things like that being said about DS9. And Voyager. And Enterprise (though a lot of that was valid that time, IMO). I've read about the same backlash to TNG.

*insert Picard bombastic facepalm gif*
2 reminds me of the guy who didn't seem to register that I spent a weekend replying to him with unpunctuated one word answers, purely to see how long he'd keep going. Maybe 3 days? Possibly linger, but it's been a decade. Reader, I did *not* go on a date with him.

One of the country's most renowned and established journalists doing dispatches from the frontline of the Poppy War. This is bad comedy.

I feel like we don’t say “fuck Ronald Reagan” enough.
Oh look. It's that time of year where I get irrationally annoyed by companies churning out "advent calendars" that only have 12 things in them.
