I understand there’s pie discourse happening? Not joining in, since I currently can’t enjoy any variety of pie due to MCAS.

But!

As an alternative, may I suggest this lovely bookish baking adventure by the always-wonderful @tkingfisher.com?

I just started it and I’m already in love.

I got a Twitter DM from the publisher of a book by Jeffrey Haas (Fred Hampton's lawyer) that I'd recommended in a thread that went viral, thanking me for the unexpected spike in sales. I'm sure we're talking dozens, not hundreds, but they were like doing highkey internet sleuthing to figure it out!
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

Just posted this to FedBook a few days ago: "It has become so much harder to do very basic things and that makes everything feel like a heavier lift." - So yes, I really agree with this.
Everything seems so much harder lately. Just hard, hard, hard. (IT'S FINE IT'S FINE)

Literally this. If you don’t have a poem that moves you, you don’t need to read one. If you don’t do elaborate toasts normally, you don’t need to start today.
And maybe people also need to be willing to let go of parts of the day they don't actually care about? If there's not a single person who can think of a toast or a party game, maybe skip the toast and then do a puzzle after dinner?

(A) stop feeling pressure to be perfect;
(B) normalize asking questions, because that is normalizing learning;
(C) do not ask AI if your turkey is done; ask a meat thermometer
This is so soulless, I can't stand it. We have BRAINS. We can USE THEM.

Hey y’all Sydette really needs a boost. Can you help her out right now?

She is one of the smartest, kindest people I know and she has put a lot in with very little reward.
Welp it’s gotten real real if you can please help. If you can’t it’s really hard out here so share

Gorgeous colorizations of trans history images,

and a lot of incredible stories, including many lesser-known to many (A Zapatista colonel, a "transvestite pass" issued in 1928, the Scottish nobleman who the courts ruled should inherit his baronetcy in the 60s... for example...)

also if you judge me for my reading habits i will have you know that the epic of gilgamesh was ALSO contemporary m/m romance once. why do you hate the epic of gilgamesh you uncultured swine
ive been reading a few contemporary m/m romances and enjoying them bc it feels like being lightly concussed. and/or running everything through a magical realism filter. nothing makes sense but everything feels nice

Blocking these common sense policies to protect 800 billionaires isn’t just fiscally dumb—it’s literally killing us by the hundreds of thousands

I love Christmas and normally I'd be getting so excited right about now, but this year I'm a little down because it's our first holiday since we lost Fergus. I'm hoping I can spread some cheer and regain a little spirit myself by raising some funds for our local shelter! givebutter.com/n5l31M

Today was exhausting.

Woke up to find water shut off because of yet another water main break. It was fixed a few hours later.

Then: ANOTHER water main break. Water came back on; I thought it was fixed.

7 pm email: We have to shut off water overnight to fix the leak.

7:47 pm: lol, it's fixed!
