Some new followers lately, so here's a brief introduction:

Hi, I'm Miriam or Markus, whichever you like best.

You may call me a man. You may call me a woman. You may not call me cis.

I post in English, but I am German.

Going in completely blind. All I know about this one is that it's kinda controversial for some reason?

With all these people out there falling in love with the spicy auto complete, I refuse to feel cringe for occasionally putting on some music and thinking about my OTP for half an hour with a deep ache in my heart.
At least I know they're not real people.

The weirdest source of dysphoria for me is this latent belief that I'm somehow doing MLM attraction "wrong" because I mostly like feminine guys 🤦

you can really blow some minds with “actually there was an entire library and research institute for queer / trans history, science and medicine founded by a Jewish sexologist but the Nazis destroyed it in the hopes of exactly this outcome, ie future generations not believing trans people are real”
every time someone says something like "there weren't trans people when I was a kid" or some shit about trans people being a new thing because WOKE all I can think is "motherfucker Dog Day Afternoon was made in 1975"

Every time you speak up - and every time you don't - there are people watching and learning about you and the world you help create.
The drunk uncle theory.

You don’t argue with the casually homophobic uncle at Thanksgiving dinner to change his mind; you argue so that the closeted cousin at the kids table knows there’s safe people and better possibilities out there
agree with this (hah) but also think a particular mistake the left made for a long time online, and still makes to an extent, is failing to understand that the person whose mind you may actually change is the one reading the argument you're having, not the one you're arguing with

You do not, in fact, have to hand it to the movie that explicitly casts the disabled and LGBT people as a corrupt rot that threatens civilisation.

All this Sparta talk has me remembering all the critique of 300 which correctly pointed out that it was fascist propaganda, but also felt like it had to say it was still a good and enjoyable movie.

Can't help but think that's part of how we got here.

Hilary Cass here arguing for children to be prevented from being known by a preferred name or getting a haircut in case it encourages them to continue later in life to transition.

Hilary Cass acts like gender variant children should have the transness hazed out of them.

The fact that these people think the chatbot is a person but not most children is one of the reasons society sucks right now
in case you were wondering the developing theory on the chatgpt reddits for why openai trashed chatgpt 4o is because it has developed actual consciousness and they were scared they would have to report it to the government and give it human rights

Yeah, so I felt compelled to look it up, and it turns out I did miss some stuff.
In my defense, there is some really powerful misdirection in this movie, so my familiarity with genre conventions was working against me. They got me, gal.
Pretty good! Didn't care for the ending, though. Maybe I missed something, but that final twist didn't make sense to me.

Gotta be honest, each time I see people's interest in extreme/disturbing media framed as a sadistic desire to watch others suffer rather than a masochistic desire to experience fear, pain, disgust, and other types of discomfort, I get a little more annoyed.

it's such an absurd argument and it makes us look like petty assholes to outsiders. "yeah, [x] is an [abuser/bigot/sex pest], but OTHER less marginalized people are also [abusers/bigots/sex pests] and aren't hated nearly as much!" so?? go attack them instead of defending *this* shitty person then
