No one, absolutely no one, rushed to fill the niche left by Trump and Musk and Rubio murdering USAID, and that should tell us a lot about other governments.

How do I vote for you? You dress really well and you also have the right opinions
After housing, this is the next big zoning reform: the right to do business. Always found it odd that the USA, supposedly the land of the free market, makes it the hard if not outright illegal to open a business in most places.

Like many other planning failures, this one's also rooted in racism.
The al pastor taco truck at sleepy North Berkeley BART is booming every night with neighbors, cyclists and families. Imagine what we could do with fully legalized street vending citywide.

Got final confirmation and details on the new job. Three 13 hour shifts, 39 hours a week. $17 an hour on Friday, $20 an hour on Saturday and Sunday. Starts first week of March.

This'll be the first time I've ever made more than $15.00 an hour which is sad to say out loud.

I'm tired of the "antisemitism won't stop the genocide in Gaza" take, because bluntly it is implicitly based on the premise that if it did, it would be acceptable - as if the single MOST important thing in the world right now was Gaza and that it completely overruled all other moral considerations.

I mean this is just flatly true, though. We get the government we vote for. If people don't vote for the Democrats, the Democrats do not have enough political power to achieve their objectives.

The electorate is, actually, responsible for the government as much as the parties & politicians.
The inversion of electorial responsibilities by American libeerals is extremely bizarre to me. It's a mentality that Democrats cannot fail voters, the voters fail Democrats. If "your guy" didn't win it has nothing to do with the guy and everything to do with a disobedient electorate.

It's also sort of understandable that a lot of pop/vulgar leftism is, shall we say, *ambivalent* on the notion of political administration requiring expertise. Traditional elites have often cited their expertise to shut down challengers!

But that doesn't change that you do, actually, want expertise
This manifests also, obviously, in cases such as the reaction of disappointed communists to the repeated failures of ostensibly-communist states to institute the program of idealistic Marxism. They keep blaming failures of principle, of theory, but there are also simple failures of administration!

An issue with the Epstein files is that the FBI interviewed a lot of people after Epstein died, and some of them were cranks who said things like “He sounds like Mossad to me” and now people can be like “Epstein was Mossad, it’s in the Epstein files!”

This is why the Neverending Sanders Wars were so profoundly bad and why I'm increasingly skeptical on adversarial primaries (which most primaries will be in an environment of social media.)

All the positive and negative feelings need somewhere to go after!
The thing about all the Newsom posting is that people are giving themselves negative feelings about the party as a whole based on something at best hypothetical (more likely imaginary) and after the thing doesn’t come to pass, those negative feelings will remain, searching for justification.

This is incredible. You couldn’t make this up. Literally saying that the most powerful thing you could do in electoral politics is to act exactly like a person who is only vaguely aware of who Donald Trump is.
I find it interesting that you think withholding of a vote, the most powerful thing one can do in electoral politics, is doing nothing.

Further I've seen how leftists are treated by the "coalition" when they DO hold their noses and vote. I can see why they turned away.

It IS doing nothing. It is quite literally doing absolutely nothing. You gain no power from it whatsoever what the ass are you talking about.

"WAAAAA duh coalition was mean to me so I refused to help stop fascism." Grow, and I cannot stress this enough, the fuck up.

About 2.5 million of those deaths are projected to be children under the age of 5.”

History is gonna look back on the 2016 election with increasing incredulity.

Not just at Trump’s supporters, but at all the people who let structural misogyny take the future away from them.
I love Biden and I love Harris, and I think they believe it too, but in so many ways Hillary ran on it, on the idea that America was ready to step into that shining future and people took a pass on it.

"Community" is one of those big words that's naturally double edged and it would be nice for us to acknowledge that more often.
Just chiming in to second this from the enby experience; I have been explicitly accused of being a gender traitor for both a. Being a member of the Bergen county democratic committee and b. Being an economist in manufacturing. I’ve also been accused of straight up “faking it” which is…. Not fun!
it is absolutely a thing that happens that if a trans person is trying to be a regular person who belongs to the normal political party that supports their rights, members of The Community will "call them in" and tell them that their insufficient radicalism should embarass them

Cameron asks an interesting question here. And so far in the replies, no one even attempts to answer it. Now there are a couple examples where someone is confused and that's fine. But everyone else is just kind of yelling non-sequiturs about the Dems
pulling off a targeted strike shutdown on one specific government department seems like genuinely impressive minority party politicking

I feel confident that if social media existed in ‘08 as it does today, Obama would have lost.

After months of attacks calling him a homophobe “just as bad as the GOP” for his civil unions position (not to mention moderation on race), I just refuse to believe the enthusiasm would have been there.
the whole anti-trans thing is because Newsom is the most anti-trans candidate and one of the favorite so they're readying a defense for why they won't vote for Democrats
