In Oklahoma, women receive two pairs of white underwear. If they're lucky enough to have friends or family members, they can purchase five additional pairs. For periods, the state issues 15 pads and just 10 tampons per month (five regular and five super). Here's what periods are like in prison.
What It's Like to Have Your Period in Prison
Even at a women’s prison, your menstruation care needs may not be met.

The four queers I’m watching with all shouted LESBIAN at the screen when she came on. The jacket, the hair, the coming from Brighton, the vibes.
Amanda getting far too much focus for her to not be banished in a glorious display of hubris #TheTraitors

We discovered last night that our housemate thought that the word ‘Hootenanny’ was actually the word ‘Punani’, which made watching Jools Holland a very different kind of party.

This is what is so revolting - and so familiar from Section 28 and all the anti-gay sentiment the UK has worked to overcome. It’s just all of that with a different hat. Anti trans “campaigners” just think trans people are icky, and that feeling has no place here, no matter the money behind it.
As I said recently in The Guardian:

"Despite their hopes to the contrary, anti-trans campaigners have not won the hearts and minds they believed the Supreme Court would give them"

So they turn to this; desperate, fascistic calls for the destruction of those they hate (framed as ideas, not people).

Starmer has killed hope. When the Tories were the nasty party, we could at least hope for something better. Now that Labour are the nasty party, we must dread an opposition that's even worse.

Because we’re all political nerds in our house, our (then) teenage kids were consumed with all the Brexit shenanigans. I was cooking dinner when May lost another Meaningful Vote and my son crashed into the kitchen and said, in a tone of deepest solemnity, ‘It doesn’t look good for The Big T’.
I woke up early and blearily put the radio on - only to hear Theresa May rambling on about cricket. Turns out she was guest editing the Today programme. For a minute there I thought I was having a 2019 fever dream. #meaningfulvotes #iykyk

“having to mask made me go fash” is so common and it’s just baffling

I mean, yes, it was annoying to wear one all the time? it also wasn’t that big a deal? if, today, someone asks me to put a mask on I go “ok” and put one on

and yet so many people treat it as a life-ruining imposition
The reason this Harvard history professor decided he was done with one of the best and most privileged jobs in the world was, in his own words, because he was forced to lecture in a mask during peak Covid.

I’m not making this up.

This is exactly why I strongly opposed the move to strip Shamima Begum of her citizenship. Plenty of Brits have dual citizenship, often through a parent, or have access to another citizenship whether they intend to take it up or not, including all Jewish people & most people born in Northern Ireland
Ask this question and its follow-up. Like Begum before him, Alaa el-Fattah is being used as a crowbar to shift reasonable people - even some progressives - into a space of thinking that full citizenship, if granted recently or dual, is retroactively conditional or attracts a lower class of rights.
