Money can buy happiness. If Elon Musk built a rocket and shot himself into the fucking sun that would generate massive happiness.
it’s genuinely reassuring to me that this is the most miserable and paranoid person in the entire world

worth noting that the second rich people stopped being afraid of mobs tearing them limb from limb, they stopped building libraries and opera houses and stuff and started ripping the copper wiring out of the walls of society instead

Just a pound of refined sugar can fuck up a whole truckload of wet concrete and the damage won't be apparent until it's poured and cured. French Anarchists used that trick when they were trying to sabotage prisons being built in the 70s.

And that's today's French history lesson.
In the past week we've learned ICE has secured property to build human warehouses in Merrimack, NH and Williamsport, MD. Just some facts I think bear repeating.

The issue with this now is that everything and nothing is a crime depending on your relationship to power. There’s no more choosing to break the law, the regime breaks the law over you every moment.

Highlighting the speaker who stood in front of the Surprise mayor and told him to consider what the Mayor of Ohrdruf must’ve thought before he died by suicide: “He might have thought ‘how is this my fault I had no jurisdiction over this’ maybe he said ‘this site was not subject to local zoning.’”

If my caucus was any sort of indication, national Dems really need to wake the fuck up about what voters want them to do about ICE.

They wouldn't let us vote for "Fuck ICE" in the governor straw poll so a bunch of us in my precinct voted for @erinmayequade.bsky.social instead. She really should run for governor!

I really didn't feel like going to caucus but felt obligated because I said I would. Now, however, I have plans to meet up and head there with some members of my union and I'm happy about it! Let's all go caucus! Fuck ICE!

Is being held in contempt like being put in timeout for lawyers or something? I always thought it was a little more serious than that, but if it lets you sleep all day maybe I should go find a judge to piss off

Not only excessive and gratuitous force, it absolutely does not work for the ostensible purpose. They love using it punitively to feel badass and because they can get away with it, but it only makes the situation worse even if you are properly trying to disperse a for-real riot.
Tear gas is banned in international warfare, yet classified as a “riot control agent” that law enforcement can use for crowd control.

“It just doesn’t work well, and it hits the weakest people the most, and causes the most complications in them,” an anesthesiology professor at Duke University said.
Tear Gas Is Way More Dangerous Than Police Let On
In the middle of a respiratory pandemic, law enforcement agencies have used tear gas in especially dangerous ways. The chemical agent also seeps into homes, contaminates food, furniture, skin and surf...

I'm not trying to tell anyone what tactics they should agree or disagree with, I have my opinions but I don't think that's a *useful* argument to have when this stuff becomes Discourse.

But if your standard is "no crime," you let legislators dictate protest legitimacy.

Guess who is legislating.

This is our culture.

It is rape culture, but also more broadly it is abuse and exploitation culture.

It is pervasive and it is the reason my career was wrecked and it is the reason Trump is president and it is the reason armed state abusers feel justified executing a mouthy woman in the street.

What a great question. My great aunt did a family history/genealogy thing and learned that one of my ancestors was a guy named Pierre Brou who came over from France. I dunno why, though.
Genuinely curious: If your family is American, what brought them here?

damn but this applies in so many areas

"you need to understand why people do things, not bitch and moan they're being suboptimal"
"but they shouldn't do that! they're stupid! don't they realize that that's how trump got into power?"

okay, your whining is not a winning strategy. you need to understand why people do things, not bitch and moan they're being suboptimal
