On one hand, reducing car use reduces urban pollution.
But on the other, everyone likes it and cities become more livable
Average nitrogen dioxide concentration in Paris has fallen significantly Her proposals have faced pushback — from right-leaning politicians, a car owners’ association and suburban commuters, who say that targeting cars makes their lives more difficult.

But last month, Parisians voted in a referendum to turn an additional 500 streets over to pedestrians. A year earlier, Paris had moved to sharply increase parking fees for SUVs, forcing drivers to pay three times more than they would for smaller cars. The city has also turned a bank of the Seine from a busy artery into a pedestrian zone and banned most car traffic from the shopping boulevard of Rue de Rivoli.

Carlos Moreno, a professor at Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University and a former adviser to the city, said the French capital has developed “an urban policy based on well-being.”

Reporter: What’s going on with those posts on X that are clearly trolling the president?

Newsom: I hope it’s a wake up call for the president. I’m just following his example. If you have issues with what I’m putting out, you sure as hell should have concerns with what he’s putting out

My take on the "what's the point of pointing out facts" argument is
a) *someone* might be influenced
b) the truth has an intrinsic value (and I can't understand why some people think otherwise)
c) yes it's not the only argument
d) it's nihilistic to shrug and make no effort to assert it

🚨 On the agenda of today's EU Commission meeting: proposal to partly suspend Israel from the EU Horizon research programme

(Would need qualified majority vote of Member States)

Really inconsiderate of Gazan children to choose the school holiday period to starve to death and therefore force Freeman to confront her own complicity in genocide.

[But don't worry, she succeeds in blaming it all on Hamas and "very bad people."]

Much has been said and written about yesterday’s advisory opinion of the #ICJ on the obligations of states in relation to the fight against #ClimateChange. What I find truly remarkable is the last paragraph on judicial self-restraint and on climate as a global challenge

At first sight, I don't think this would be covered by the notion of an 'envisaged agreement', so an Opinion pursuant to Article 218(11) seems difficult...

The assumption that the Council can only suspend the association agreement with Israel through a unanimous vote, is erroneous in my opinion. In this post for @verfassungsblog.de I try to spell out why that is the case.
verfassungsblog.de
While the legal obligation to suspend the EU-Israel Association Agreement remains contested, it is commonly believed that such a suspension would require a unanimous decision by the Council.

MERIJN CHAMON, however, takes a different view:

Quote from our published article by author Merijn Chamon: “While mustering a qualified majority vote in favour of suspending the EU-Israel AA might not be politically realistic, it remains important to point out that the law does not require unanimity.”

If I'm reading this right, the big Trump administration tariff exemptions from today seem to be based on declaring all of the covered products to be "semiconductors." Legally speaking, this seems a bit suspect.

Very remarkable to see that in quite a number of EU sanctions cases brought by non-sanctioned parties, the General Court skips admissibility and proceeds to dismiss on the merits in the interest of procedural economy (e.g. T-828/22, T-797/22, T-307/22) - Avoiding to have to deal with Plaumann?
