been thinking about this a lot too. how it hurts to step up and feel like i'm actually part of something bigger, yet know that me and mine are cut off from the nourishment of community. sometimes literally. we can't eat that sambusa or drink that hot tea, not when the crowd around us is all unmasked
there is a mobilization of my neighbors unlike anything anyone has ever seen

and when it is over and I ask them to allow me into public spaces again they will tell me wearing a mask is too much to ask

I don't know what to do with this information

Istg that my first thought upon skimming this was “dang, those protesting faith leaders mean business”. Then realized it was Detroit, and not everyone is fighting fascism all of the time everyday today. Hi from MN, Detroit!
A friend sent me this video: A car crashed into the Delta Airlines baggage check-in area at Detroit Metro Airport

The whole reason this story is widely known is that the horrified and distraught leadership of the child's school publicized it.

The important lesson for the Feds to take away from this is that if anyone interfered with their operations this afternoon, or tracked them, there's a minimum of this much still in reserve.

Haven’t heard crowd size estimates yet.

For every person that was at the march today there was also someone tailing ICE vehicles or watching over a neighborhood business or doing mutual aid. This crowd is only part of us!

I love this state, I love this city (and I'm including the whole metro in that).
Minnesota is the best of us.

that crowd doesn’t even include the people actively patrolling, doing mutual aid, and dozens of small protests on corners throughout the city during the march. really cannot adequately convey the size of this thing that is happening

I hope after we win in this occupation, we rebuild around our local economy and keep as many dollars here as possible because there’s not a single big box store or mega corporation on this list. They are not our friends.
there are a bunch of big names on this list, including multiple beard award winners, and some places i never would have guessed in a hundred years (the malt shop?!) and i'm genuinely floored and delighted to see so many participants

This many people are out at the March. ICE is still out in the neighborhoods. Are so are the rest of not at the march, protecting our neighbors. The village is large.
When this many people come out in -9 degrees, you know we are going to win.
It’s -9 degrees. Downtown Minneapolis is packed for the anti-ICE rally and the crowd keeps growing

Just got off the phone with Opus - we stepped up and prevented an ICE facility in our community which would have harmed Minnesotans.

Great work, all!!!

And more than the metro: Willmar (way west of the metro) has hit the news more than once, including that awful story about ICE agents eating lunch at a Mexican restaurant and then coming back later to arrest the staff. Shameful.

This is a good article. I’m glad it was written. Fact checking would be appreciated though- the siege here in MN is NOT just Minneapolis. Its our entire metro area. It is St. Paul. It is Roseville. It is Eagan. It is all of our suburbs. It is Saint Cloud, 90 minutes away. Let’s be thorough, folks.
I wasn't sure what to expect from a group of Democratic state AGs, but I definitely was not expecting a long monologue about Ruby Ridge and the Boston Massacre www.theverge.com/policy/86588...

On this point, I emailed the nice folks at Evie/Hourcar to see if they could do a discount for people doing mutual aid, but who can’t, either because of this or because they just don’t have a car. I got a nice note back saying they’d pass it up the chain. Other members might also send a note.
A thing that might not be clear from the outside is that while everyone here is engaged in this fight, ICE’s use of dystopian technology means that you essentially have to pick a lane between observing ICE and doing mutual aid. They are tracking observers’ cars, and taking pictures of their faces.

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

I don't know who else needs to hear this, but I think it's OK to have some absolutely non-productive work days when a civil war is brewing in your backyard.

If you scrolled away half your damn day and you're bummed about it, you're not alone and we'll try again tomorrow.
