It's incredibly demoralizing to constantly see the highest institutions of government and academia and the most important and widely seen news outlets knuckle under one after another, but then to see the gulf between that and the bravery of communities and neighbors and teachers - that's something

#BigOil doesn't even want to clean up their wellsites after forest fires burn through them.

How could we possibly trust them to do anything responsible?
Morally broken leaders talk of #Pipelines as #NationBuilding instead of burning but it's a disastrous economic bet as well. #CostOfClimate needs to be demonstrated the and time again. #BigOil will continue to just take the money and run #ClimateChange prospect.org/environment/...
Climate Change Will Bankrupt the Country
Climate-fueled disasters cost America almost a trillion dollars over the last year, far more than economists predicted.

I’m just an armchair critic but if I was a human rights lawyer, the former DPP and the current PM, I’d probably decide immediately that the only option on the table for a website that openly allows the creation and sharing of CSAM is to shut it down and jail the ringleaders.
The problem with "all options being on the table" is that it only means something if you're actually willing to pick any of them up and use them

American Samoans, unique among *everyone* born in US states or territories, are denied US citizenship.

That means they are banned from voting.

That's made some a target of vicious GOP prosecution for fraud; even if they were told incorrect info from public officials.

There was a time there would have been wall-to-wall media coverage of this public outrage. But I only see it on social media.
Minneapolis showed up in force last night.

Thousands gathered in the neighborhood where Renee Nicole Good was killed by ICE. The message to the regime was loud, clear, and absolutely heartbreaking.

Doug Ford has fought transparency every step of the way with your hard-earned taxpayer dollars. If there was nothing to hide, why the secrecy?

The City of Vancouver continues to provide real-time text updates about council meetings exclusively on a website that produces mass amounts of deepfake non-consensual sexualized images of minors
This is harm. Time for serious people to get serious about it.

Ontario has the fewest hospital beds per person of any province in Canada.

Ontario funds its hospitals at the lowest rate per person of all the provinces.

We deserve better.

It’s hard to fathom the tragedy of another Kennedy-this time Tatiana Schlossberg-dying at such a relatively young age

But it’s unimaginable to comprehend what she felt, while cancer was stealing her life, as she watched her cousin cut research that might’ve saved other victims of malignant diseases
"As I spent more and more of my life under the care of doctors, nurses, and researchers striving to improve the lives of others, I watched as Bobby cut nearly a half billion dollars for research into mRNA vaccines, technology that could be used against certain cancers”

Reading Tatiana Schlossenberg's essay about her experience with facing an aggressive form of cancer, what struck me was her two mentions of her family having to negotiate with the insurance company. Even for a family of relative wealth, the costs of treatment are brutal.
Tatiana Schlossberg, a journalist who was also a granddaughter of late former President John F. Kennedy, has died at the age of 35.

Ford's crony capitalism is gutting healthcare.

“In order for hospitals & other providers to live within that kind of budget envelope, some pretty significant trade-off decisions would have to be implemented.”

As someone who has to review minutes for multiple committees, I can affirmatively state that AI for meeting transcription is not accurate, edits to the minutes now take up more committee time, and it is much worse than having a person prepare accurate minutes.

We do not want this in Ontario or in any other province. However, this is the slippery slope that Doug Ford’s government is putting us on. Privatization and for-profit healthcare literally kills patients.

nursing staffs & ⬇️ in compliance with care standards contributed to the increased deaths at financier-owned homes.”
