I'm old.

If you're not, listen to this.

Get a guitar or some drums, or a trumpet. Pick up a brush, a pencil, some clay or a welder.

Just make shit. It doesn't have to be good (eventually it will be) just make music, art or write or whatever.

It's literally never been more important.

Reminder - this is the same guy who got his start making ZZT - a program that made it easy for everyone to make simple ascii-graphics videogames and share them with others. That was about as far away from "Just use AI" as you could get.

Gotten a few heartfelt e-mails from developers lately asking me to check out their game, including a key in the e-mail... and then I check the Steam page and find this kind of AI disclosure. Makes me question if the e-mail I thought was heartfelt was even written by the dev. Truly toxic to your game
i take frenzy damage every time i see someone go "well i just use it for the boring stuff". what are you TALKING about? if it's boring or unimportant, why are you putting it in? NPC dialogue is fertile ground for worldbuilding, creating verisimilitude, conveying important information, and hijinks!!
Buy a solo indie dev's game because I want to support them.

Find out it uses OpenAI to write "non-important NPC dialogue".

Yet another veteran games studio touched by the all-consuming hand of private equity. Two months after the buyout, they're stripped for parts.

Splash damage did a lot of good stuff over the years, and didn't get nearly enough love.

The East LA level in Tony Hawk's American Sk8land has an elaborate secret involving an invisible rail that clips you through geometry to an out-of-bounds section of the map, revealing a message telling you to hide in the bushes in the Beverly Hills map.

When you do so, the game plays a fart noise.

If you live around Delaware and that Giant or Trek you got sold just doesn't feel right, pop over the river and hit up Halter's Cycles in New Jersey, they do proper bike fits!

I think "class traitors" is up there with "idea landlords" on the reality disconnect scale.
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

Society is a construct. You can just ask someone to do a ska cover of Faith of the Heart and they'll say "$300 please" and you give it to them and then you have it.

There's been a lot of talk about pirating books. While I'm generally pretty pro piracy if it's impossible to buy the thing, the bottom line on pirating books is: don't.

Libraries exist, are free, and the author gets paid when you borrow their books. Everyone wins.

We did something different with the credits for Demonschool. We used this format: name, title, lengthy description of what they did. Often you see credits in games where you don't know what the credited developer was actually responsible for. We wanted to give people proper, actual credit.
