I've always been a refuser because of the multiplayer audience stereotype, but they're all really good so far, and the switch mechanics up a bit too. I've been surprised

So after playing Call of Duty 1,2,3, Finest Hour, World at War, WW2, MW 1,2,3, and Black Ops, I've come round to the idea that Call of Duty campaigns are good, actually.

Related: the history of how the CD-i came to be is a part of my book, The Console, available now.

It's sold, like, 18 copies in the last six months, so any purchases are extraordinarily welcomed.
The Console: 50 Years of Home Video Gaming, a book I wrote that spans console evolution from 1972 to 2022. It's mostly about Old Things, the choice of DualSense controller for the cover not something I had a say in, really. Lots of research went into this book, it took me ages to put together. I lost holidays to it. I fell out with family making it. So, that it's barely sold at all, is a constant bummer.

love that bloodborne keeps getting all theories and analysis but the actual player character never has any clue what the fuck is going on. it's the best. guy just ends up killing dogs and ramming his fist into pigs assholes and if asked why can only manage a shrug and "something about blood i think"

This right here is obviously disastrous, but Labour's awful anti-environment planning proposals will have a far worse effect than impacting on "resort" nature like national parks.

Say goodbye to that little field or park near you, that place you walk the dog or go to chill out.
Plans to weaken protections for national parks will have ‘disastrous consequences’ say green groups
Exclusive: Letter from 170-plus organisations calls on government to drop proposed changes to planning law

Absolum, from the publisher of Eurogamer Essential Streets of Rage 4, is a brawler that lets you cash-out a combo - and it's brilliant.

In a hectic month, don't let it get overlooked.

Everyone in the UK that has had to use this service should be phoning up their MP office to demand an explanation why a law set out (OSA) did not have adequate protections of said data.

NEW: breach of Discord age verification data.

Including some users passports & DLs

Age verification is a badly implemented data grab wrapped in a moral panic.

Mark my words, as age verification mandates expand, we'll end up more surveilled and less secure. 1/

I just picked up the entire Lord of the Rings Extended Edition collection in a charity shop. Pristine condition. £4. This is the kind of small victory that will carry me through my day

Thing is (and this is part of why it’s been so disruptive to a bunch of dev cycles)—even if you wanted to treat those complaints as valid, they’re *always changing*

If someone is coming to video games and artists doing interesting things in them in bad faith, you can never do enough to satisfy them

You would not believe how many stories like this have been popping up over the last ~5 years

Not just full games cancelled—entire characters and plot lines removed or changed, leaving less time for making the *rest of the game better*, to try avoiding a small and malicious contingent of voices.

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

Goodbye. Maybe take some lessons from Dylan on how to write with a bit of human flair.
sighingcorvid.bsky.social
Maybe stop writing like chatgpt then. Dylan is a true bard, a poet, an artist. Any fan of his work wouldn't write like a machine.
sighingcorvid.bsky.social
Did chatgpt write that for you?

I choose to believe that Ritchie Edwards is still out there somewhere so he can stake his claim off the back of The Holy Bible.

Otherwise it's Jeff Rosenstock.

I also need to know: I am fairly middle-of-the-road on Taylor Swift but someone I know called her the Greatest Living Lyricist. She is not.

Who is yours? Either the greatest or your favorite?
