I was out to dinner once with a group of coworkers, one of whom was our head of IT, and this guy went on a rant about all of our Spanish-speaking employees and how they refuse to learn English, and how if he moved to Mexico he would learn Spanish, so why can’t they learn English?
i don't want to discuss the ways in which this is wrong, BUT there are a subset of tech jobs -- like, if you are the only sysadmin at a small baked bean company -- which have the same cultural valence as "HVAC contractor," as in "highly-paid WWC job," and have the same politics.
A thing that I feel has not been discussed enough is that the highly paid IT and infosec guys at any company you care to name all seem to be absolutely insane right-wing freaks with the impulse control of a drunk toddler
