Under Glenn Youngkin, people exiting prison in Virginia have to hope that he personally decides they are worthy of voting. Unlike his predecessors, Youngkin has taken full advantage of his power to pick and choose who gets to vote. I wrote about this in 2023: boltsmag.org/virginia-gov...

Trans people have warned for years that these anti-trans policies would hurt far more than just trans people.
Citing a Trump executive order banning "gender ideology," the VA is withholding coverage and treatment for male veterans with breast cancer, an increasing condition among veterans exposed to toxic chemicals during service. 100 male veterans a year are diagnosed with breast cancer.

Kat Abugazeh’s campaign has crossed a threshold where the risk she’s taking is significant enough and the actions admirable enough I sorta am past caring if it’s a publicity stunt/brand building exercise or not, it’s still brave and worthy of respect.

i can't claim to know Kat as well as I'd like but there's never been a shred of doubt in my mind that she believes what she says and is willing to put her body on the line for that belief. I admire her.

I respectfully* submit: If you manage to become a “disaffected democrat” based on a thing that happens 10 times on half a million student-athletes, you weren’t much of a democrat to begin with.

why doesn’t stuff like this ever happen in my back yard
@darthbluesky.bsky.social Thank goodness you're here, I need your advice. My neighbor, Max, is continually violating our privacy and spying on us in our backyard. I finally caught him in the act. How do I approach this situation?

You shouldn’t have to choose between food and health care, but Republicans insist.

I have been charged in a federal indictment sought by the Department of Justice.

This political prosecution is an attack on all of our First Amendment rights. I’m not backing down, and we’re going to win.

It should go without saying that these mass internment camps will be much, much more expensive to operate than just giving the homeless free or subsidized housing would be.
Under Trump, the draconian future of homelessness policy is coming into focus: mass internment. Utah is building a 16-acre site to detain up to 1,300 homeless people inside locked "accountability centers." This is profoundly alarming.

if they're kin and they're your age, cousins. older than you, aunties/uncles. younger than you, nieces/nephews. sorry i don't make the rules that's just how this works. 3rd cousin once removed is some white supremacist bullshit
In a bit of a tense moment, one of the La Mega co-hosts presses Mamdani on why he "lied" about his "aunt" having been scared to ride the subway after 9/11 while wearing a hijab.

Mamdani says it was "not a lie" because he refers to his father's cousin as his "aunt."

“The boat strikes constitute murder,” Eugene R. Fidell told me. He used to be a JAG in the Coast Guard and is now at Yale Law School. The entire operation amounts to “treating the world as a free-fire zone,” he said.

Remember when the Supreme Court gave a pass to a state that created a private right of action crafted with the purpose of evading federal law and judicial review?

States should experiment with a similar law to allow damages actions against federal agents in state court.

That'll go over well.

Not just thrown in the garbage but also poisoned with bleach and such so it can't be reclaimed.

As has been said: Saw someone stealing groceries, care items, &c? NO YOU DIDN'T.

It is good and right to reclaim basic survival goods from stake/shareholders.
Food insecurity is ALWAYS a political choice. Famine is ALWAYS manmade. People go hungry because of other people’s decisions. We have more than enough food for everyone, and enormous amounts of it are wasted—literally thrown in the garbage—on purpose.

There’s money to bomb boats in Venezuela.

There’s money to give $50k signing bonuses to ICE & increase their weapons budget 700%

There’s $40 billion for Argentina

There’s money for military vanity parades.

But there’s no money for SNAP, healthcare or housing.

Got it.
