I am going to keep running with this bit until I use it IRL and have what I expect will be a very strange conversation with whoever I'm talking to
the Bible, even more if you look at the deuterocanon, which you probably should). Conveniently, divine Wisdom is already regularly worshipped in Christian liturgy, because she was made incarnate as Jesus of Nazareth. So leave "Father" alone and start calling Jesus "she" instead. Then you have parity

Trump: You can't have guns. You can't walk in with guns. It's a very unfortunate thing.

when you structure your entire political narrative around invincibility, it turns out that backing down even slightly is in fact a massive thing.

it is both true that firing bovino doesn’t change a whole lot in terms of policy and also true that they have put a lot of money, time and effort into trying to make him the “never back down, fuck you, we own this place” face of the operation, and unceremoniously kicking him to the curb is a retreat

today I learned about "Kirby frames", and I want to use it in my communications trainings. now I need to learn how to explain who Kirby is
i made a template you can use to think about what "frame/negation/kirby" looks like for other issues.
For example:

Frame: DOGE is a govt efficiency project to save $

Negation: Actually it made things less efficient and cost $

Kirby: DOGE was a project to break and privatize federal bureaucracy

a fun thing about putting a cosplay together is when someone you know asks "so what kind of character is this" and you have to boil all the relevant context and brainworms down to "she's very controversial among fans of the work she's from" (or whatever applies to your thing)

The ICE agent who murdered Renee Good was part of Trump’s ICE, Biden’s ICE, and Obama’s ICE.

From the article, it looks like they're scraping name, address, photo, etc, from Centers for Medicare and Medicaid records. I would not be surprised if they have broken the law here.
This is terrifying

I do t even understand how this is legal since medical records are supposed to be confidential - even from the government.

This is not only going to impact patient care but will prevent those at greatest need from seeming care until it’s too late.
ICE agents are using an app developed by Palantir that draws on the health records of millions of Americans to find and detain illegal immigrants

Even aside from court losses, one of the things they've realized is you can put soldiers on street corners but even when given the notional authority, they are not gonna behave like ICE. They're more reticent to use force than even normal cops. They aren't itching for a fight on American streets.

This is exactly right. If he does it, that would be very bad, but the practical effect would be underwhelming. It's not actually a "ha ha I win, we're a military dictatorship now" button. Same reason they've backed off using the Guard. They want bloodlust fascist thugs and our troops mostly aren't.
The threat of invoking the Insurrection Act is way more powerful than actually doing it, and anyone who thinks doing it is a good idea has a terminal case of Twelve Year Old Brain where the victory is that the Army does what I want I win forever because they’re the tough guys from the Army.
Curious if anyone has a plausible theory of victory for the administration if it were to invoke the Insurrection Act.

How does the administration "win" in such a scenario?

Best I can tell, it is magical thinking by a certain somebody at the White House, but maybe I'm missing something.

My serious answer to this is that “the Army” is a bureaucratic abstraction comprised of the soldiers within it and a whole lot depends on which soldiers are where at what time because it just takes one twenty year-old groyper corporal with a carbine and a dream to cause a world historical event.
They called the National Guard into DC and they all just stood around in the heat and picked up garbage because they had nothing better to do. Do you think the Army is going to start roughing up protestors or arresting the brown people? That’s not what they’re there for.

substantive issue i have with popularism is that it treats the value of persuasion as essentially zero and i think if you look at any opinion trend from 2017 to today, you’ll see wild variability mostly corresponding to how the public responds to policy
Trump has even lost Rasmussen now
